Stubbs Beef Marinade

Well, considering the company that makes this is 20 miles from my house, should not have taken a Yank (Tazcrash) to turn me on to it. We did flank steak fajitas marinaded in this stuff for about 4 hours and well............it was awesome! I'm usually a "make your own marinade" guy but this was great and I'll keep a bottle in the pantry from now on. Lazy man fajitas, and they were as good (almost :) ) as my homemade marinade. Thumbs up on this one.

I have tried it on some steaks before but not fajitas. Might need to give it a try. I like their chicken marinade as well. "Ladies and Gentlmen, I'm a cook", Stubbs.

There is nothing Stubbs makes, that I don't like.

Well go to the restaurant and you may find something you don't like. Cen-tex and I were discussing this yesterday on another thread. I love the marinades and sauces though. That is why I went there the one time I went to Austin and was greatly underwhelmed.

Didn't even know they had restaurants.  I was talking about what comes in a bottle. I will take that under advice.

As far as I know it is just the one restaurant in Austin, TX. Sadly for me is I was all stoked for TX brisket and that was the only taste of it I got. I can get better brisket in NC where BBQ is a noun and only means pulled pork. Luckily for TX I quickly knew that this wasn't the best they had to offer but I was only there for a couple of days and didn't make it to a better establishment for brisket anyway. I did have some good Tex-Mex while I was there though so all was good. Great city, hope to make it back sometime.

I do like the sauces and marinades though Doc_Eggerton.

then you have never actually eaten the BBQ :))

Stubb has been gone for years and they liceense out the name to a restaurant/concert venue and these spice guys. The concert venue is awesome but the bbq is aweful

  • great story but it's a franchised and licenesed now:

“Stubb” was born Christopher B. Stubblefield in Navasota, Texas, as one of nine sons from parents he describes as “real good cooks.”

In the 1930′s, Stubb’s family moved to Lubbock, Texas to pick cotton, and it was during this time Stubb learned to cook by working in local restaurants and hotels.

Stubb left Lubbock to serve in the Korean War as a staff sergeant in the 96th Field Artillery, the last all-black army infantry, where he was a gunner and a respected leader.

Stubb used this time to perfect his culinary skills by overseeing the preparation of daily meals for as many as 10,000 soldiers.

After he returned, Stubb eventually opened his first restaurant in Lubbock in 1968, across from the county fairgrounds. He made his first barbecue in the hickory pit behind his place and filled the jukebox with vintage blues music.

It was here that Stubb’s Legendary Bar-B-Q was born…

In the 1970′s, Stubb’s restaurant became the heart of an explosive music scene. Stubbs was ground zero for musicians like Joe Ely and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Other famous musicians who would “play for their supper” included Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Robert Cray, George Thorogood, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Linda Ronstadt and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

Although small in size, Stubb’s Restaurant was always filled with good friends, great music and plenty of Stubb’s Legendary Bar-B-Q.

The Lubbock location is now closed but the legend continues here in Austin at 801 Red River. Come on down for some Live Music, Cold Beer and Great Food!

Wife and kid are great. We spent 5 days in icu and 7 in hospital. It's taken a while to unwind and get back on here. No lasting issues though so all is well.

Stubbs does have good products, but the food at their restaurant ain't great. The concerts are, though. I've got a bottle of the steak marinade in the pantry. Never used it, guess its time to break it out.

Don't know that I would ever try their hickory flavor. Hust don't want to taste fake hickory flavor after spending all that time to develop natural smoke flavor. I maybe wrong and it might be a great product, but doubt I'll ever know.

Thanks guys, now I have to go buy something else. I see it "Stubbs" everywhere here in Pa, and due to the fact they sell it at Lowes, I never gave it a second look. Well, looks like I'm the one missing out.
  • Brownie- It's made right here but i always assumed it was no good because A) the restaurant sucks and B) it's available at mass retail everywhere. Taz said it was great so i figured what the heck and tried it. It was really good. I have the chicken and pork marinade in the pantry too. I'll try those next week.

I'm with Griff on any fake smoke. usually No bueno for me but I'll grab abottle and give it a taste some time.

Glad to hear everyone seems to have had good luck with it. Seems easy to find for most so it's a good thing that you can get good quality stuff in a bottle when you don't feel like making your own stuff

    Glad I could reintroduce you.
(Insert your own tacky northerner/NY'er comment here :) )
If it makes you feel better, I'm working on a watermelon toss here. :)

@travis: glad to hear the family is home and you can start getting back to "a typical day".

I also agree about fake smoke. We have an unopened bottle of Stubbs liquid Hickory smoke that was given as a gift. No thanks.

    All to get cheaper brisket!
