Rigged!!!! Sounds like someone was wanting another company to win this. I do not think it was unscrupulous for us to vote. Just my opinion.

Wow.  Since it appeared that the BGE was winning by a large margin, and he cancelled because of unscrupulous vote generation, makes me suspect that an Egger was responsible (or else it  wasn't going the way he wanted it to go).

I'm in the clear.  I'm not smart enough to manipulate any contest.

Anyway, everybody here already KNOWS which of the cooking vessels is the best.!!!!  We don''t need no stinkin' contest.

I thought that the purpose behind having voters enter their email address was to eliminate multiple voting. If not I'm afraid that it was just a ploy to collect addresses.

Give me a break, the guy is calling out someone (obviously BGE related) for cheating?  I will never use that site again, purely useless and 30 seconds of my life I can't get back.
  • Wonderful! Now I have a reason to dislike about.com!

  • I bet it was the marketing department for "The Good One".

Dude, if that marketing department calls it "The Great One" I would have been all over voting for it, but "The Good One", I mean come on - can't vote for that.  I only vote for greatness.   :))
  • I voted last night.  I wouldn't jump to conclusions that this was a BGE culprit thing.  There were something like 11 categories for voting.  Some of those categories seemed to be way off base for other branded grills/smokers, etc...  The guy that put the vote together actually speaks rather favorably about eggs.  I wish I remembered the other brands and categories that were listed.  As said, some were way off.

suitcase thingy, weber something or other, GOOD THING, and portable kitchen in egg category.  He needs to be more specific about issues then, lets not keep people guessing.
  • The link that we got went to the first of 11 categories to vote for.  The first was best overall grill.  There were other categories such as best smoker, best gas grill, best charcoal grill, best spices/rubs/sauce...  The weird thing was, BGE was in the lead for best overall grill, but very low for best charcoal grill.  I think the vote may have been pulled because of another fan clan.

I know what it was, best marketing dept, "The Good Thing" came out of no where with a huge surge.  Kind of like Ron Paul soon enough - I can only hope  . **==

about.com often comes up in my google searches involving reviews.  Seems to me they are just a site that pays google big $$ to show up high on the search list, then posts semi-informed reviews with "where to purchase from" links at the bottom of each article, by which they undoubtedly make a profit.

I never go to about.com anymore as the reviews are worthless for me and I don't much care for the business model.   I'm sure there is a recognized term for such sites in the interwebs lexicon - I'd like to know what it is.

  • Yeah, you have to wonder.  He posted a review of the Komodo Kamado which included one or two glaring errors.  I notified him but he never made the corrections.

Of course the clear distinction between NW and about.com is that NW is true 'bbq folk' whose reviews and articles are objective and reflect a great deal of experience and expertise with any profits generated well and truely earned.

I've benefitted a great deal from your site and hope I didn't paint with too broad a brush.

  • thanks, MikeG.  I don't know about all of that, but I do know that when someone points out an error on my site, it is usually corrected within an hour of me getting the email. :)
