Central Market Lump (with pic)

I recently picked up this lump from an H.E.B grocery store. They are mostly a Texas chain. The brand is "Central Market" which is a whole foods type of store that is owned by HEB.
My question is, has anyone used this before? It was 12 bucks for 20lbs and it seems to be great. Lots of big pieces, burns well, not very much popping and it made the Angus ribeye I made taste awesome.
Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

I just bought my first bag of it and am very pleased so far. Only cooked on it twice, but I agree with all of the points you made about it. It may be the best I have found so far in Austin.

I picked up a bag of it the other day and so far like it.

austin, you should check out the HEB in Belton if ever you are up this way. It's a new SUPER HEB. I have never seen anything like it.Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

I have seen it at central market in Dallas. Might have to try some. Thanks for the heads up on it.
Cookin in Texas -
The bag is labeled mesquite lump. Mesquite plays well with beef, but can overpower chicken and pork. Do a test cook to see if you like the flavor on chicken or pork. I grew up in south Texas where beef and mesquite were abundant and that was just about the only wood we used.Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx

I just got 40 more lbs. I really hope it works out. The lump pickings are pretty slim where I'm at.Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

I agree....be careful with mesquite until you know if you like the stronger flavor. -
Just went to our Wally world and they had RO red. I purchased seven bags. They are starting to restock the garden center for summer.Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx

Picked up 8 bags of RO at W-mart today but will use the central market lump for long smokes and steaks.

FWIW, I've done butts overnight with mesquite charcoal and they turn out great. I didn't add any additional smoking wood since I wanted to see how the meat tasted just from the lump.

I've used it before but if memory serves me correctly it popped quite a bit lighting it with a weed killer. I still like it, but last weekend when I was at Cm, I picked up the B&B oak lump to try out. Pleased with that so far.
