Effects of kingsford and the like on an egg?

Hi all, I just purchaced a used Large EGG. The previous owner said they had tried kingsford in it but that it did not work very well, I guess implying that they did not keep using it. Did I make a mistake in buying it or am I overly concerned about the effects of the kingsford chemicals? I gave it a good hot 2-3 hr 600 deg burn to clean it up this weekend. Is there anything else I can/should do? I also christened it with a tri-tip on Friday and a couple pizzas on Saturday I had the stone a little too hot but otherwise it was a good first attempt.

You will have best results using a good lump coal. Start with BGE branded until you can find something cheaper that works well for you. Also, this site is great.

I am using a good lump coal, I was just concerned that there could be lasting effects of the previous owners kingsford use.

Unless they were using Kingsford Matchlight or something like that it should be fine. Plain old briquettes have filler in them, but not chemicals that would harm the egg.

Yep, you are fine. Even if they used matchlite or the like, eventually it would dissipate. Enjoy!

Thanks for the feedback! I feel a lot better about my purchase now.

@napaegg - as a side note, you may already be aware of this, but purchasing an Egg used voids the lifetime warranty. Hopefully you got a REALLY great deal on it, but if it was only $100 or so off the dealer price, you may want to see about purchasing a new one & (re)selling the used one.
Just a suggestion, as the lifetime warranty is one of the best advantages to owning an Egg over other similar products.
Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup... Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend. - Bruce Lee -
I paid less than half the cost of a new one. So hopefully that will out way the risks involved.

I would be more concerned about how much lighter fluid has been used in it, it will eventually burn out as well. though.
