Here is a video on how to take off the membrane
-
My bad. I am computer stupid.
Go to YouTube and type Baby Back Rib Membrane. You will see videos on how to take off the Membrane.
Good luck. -
I am a nice vagrant. Corn Liquor......haven't had that since my younger days. All I can remember is that I couldn't remember.....and it didn't leave you feelin too chipper the next mornin.......but had many a fun time on it in my youth.......seemed like it would ocasionally impair my vision.....
-
From Houston originally... but currently living in Oldmeldrum, Scotland (about 45 minutes north of Aberdeen) (work relocation).
-
I appreciate that, Eggary.....do they send you a bush hog blade with the kit?
-
Gotcha, friend. Went to Scotland about 8 years ago. Spent most of our time in Edinburgh......I loved Scotland.......nice folks.....interesting country.....locals said the winters there were tough.
-
The hardest part of the winter, in my opinion, isn't the snow or the cold. It's the lack of daylight at the height of winter (in December). When the sun rises at 10:30am and sets at 3:30pm... that kinda sucks. lol
Of course, summers are similar, only in reverse... at the height of summer (in June) the sun sets at like 1:30am and rises at like 3:30am... incredible lack of darkness! Great for parties, bad for sleep! -
That's what the fellas at the Wally Dug Saloon use to tell me. We were there in late May....early June.....seemed like it stayed light all night. Folks there said thw winters were depressing because of the predominent darkness.
-
my hunch is the membrane was already removed....seeing more and more of this now.....twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc.

Ha Ha Just funnin. :cheer:

   :laugh:I couldn't have removed the liner skin on my slabs of back ribs if I would've used a John Deere Tractor and tow chains.
That pig must have paced the pen a few times. How were the ribs?Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx -
He looked like Hulk Hogan.
-
No, Tom.............it was still on there....like fresh tread on a new Michellin tire with an 80,000 mile warranty. I mean, it was rugged. Ribs were real good, tho. Hey, know anybody who makes a decent AR?
-
Michael, you did that like a surgeon......but my ribs made that slab look like it was naked.
-
Joan, the ribs were outstanding. I've since vulcanized my truck tires with the liner skin to see if I can get another 10,000 miles or so out'a my tires. Look, Joan....I'll save you some rib liners from my next rib cook if you have an interest. You're gonna have to arrange your own vulcanizing. OK?
-
I tried backin over the slabs a few times with the pickup.......spun the wheels a few times hoping that would detach the liner from the ribs. But, the ribs just laughed at the pickup. Bummer.
-
Stop it, my sides are already splittin!!!!Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx
-
Interesting.......your sides are splittin, but the damn liner skin ain't. Go figure.
-
Next time you get some stubborn ribs like that, hang em up and beat the living hell out of them like a piñata . Wont do a damn thing for the ribs, but you will feel better! :woohoo:
-
No one here mentioned babybacks vs Spare ribs.
babybacks are easier to get the membrane off. If you're doing spares it's the same, just not as easy.
I started out cooking spares, had no idea why everyone said membrane removal was so easy (and it looked so easy in the video, so obviously it must be easy)
then I tried babybacks and it was a completely different story. -
I quit using the paper towel method as it seemed like it was too slippery for me. Now, once I get a portion of the membrane seperated, I grab it with some pliers and yank it off.
And no, these aren't pliers that I also use around the house for other chores. Dedicated rib membrane removal pliers that stay in the kitchen.Rowlett, Texas

Without reading all the responses, I'm sure you have read many solutions, but I just wanted to add that the membrane may have already been removed on the rack you struggled with. All of them that I get from Cosco are removed but the local grocer will sometimes leaver them. It can be a real biatch when they aren't there.
-
I think you're onto sump'm there..........
-
Ah yeah......the old liner pliers trick......gonna get som'a those.........
-
Adam, are you trying to tell me that I damaged three vertabre, broke a nose, four fingers and caused lacerations and contusions to the upper thorax and lower knee attempting to remove a ghost rib liner?
-
Yep  I've seen others do it too, so you're not alone.
-
Are you trying to tell me that's why those damn ribs didn't have any meat on'em when I got thru?
-
If you have to fillet off the membrane, it probably isn't there. :woohoo:
-
Well.......that's it.......I was considering signing up for a correspondence course in home do-it-yourself brain surgery.......I just got a notice in the mail that I passed the aptitude test.
