Due to space limitations and an additional egg I have moved my large from a table to a nest with mates. It appears that the wood on the mates needs sealed. Does any body know what kind of wood is used and what is the best sealer to use. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I cleaned mine with 91% alcohol and then varnished with some good varnish I picked up at Home Depot. Worked great.
before
during
after but before the varnish
and the handle

I removed the wood and replaced it with Corian and really like it.

They are made from cedar wood.I sanded mine and put 4 or 5 coats of spar urethane them(with a light sanding between coats). They have held up great for a few years so far.I just clean them with simple green when needed, and wax them a couple times a year
Edited:Here's a better pic

Thanks for the info everyone. Looks like I have some work ahead of me. Sparky those look great, did you remove and urethane the underside as well.

Yes,I removed all of the boards and sanded all sides of them before applying the urethane to all surfaces.I think that it is worth the extra effort to do it right the first time

Them slats sure are purddy Sparky.
Will spar urethane in the Texas heat and sun? I need to do my LBGE table and I have heard pro and cons about using it.Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx -
Thx Joan I'm not sure about the "Texas sun",but it holds up well to the sun here in Georgia Seriously, the spar urethane provides great protection from sun, rain, moisture and temperature changes(and yes,I read that right from the label :P )
