Interesting Morning

Hi all,
Spent an enjoyable morning today installing a new Rutland gasket on my large. That I got courtesy of RRP. Thanks Ron. Following the instructions that he supplied, I had the new gasket installed in about 1 1/2 hours. At the end the instructions say to shut the lid down onto the newly installed gasket, and if it didnt stick, then you are good to go for letting everything cure for 24 hours.
I had no sticking, which is a good thing. But now, noticed that my egg has an underbite. Something that I had never noticed it having before. I more than likely caused it when I went thru all the bolts and tightened them up as part of the yearly maintenance. Upon closer inspection, I now discovered that the last 6" of the gasket install was pushed forward, into the grilling space about 1/4". I tried to push it back into place, but alas, was a bit to late as the permatex had already set up.
In the collective wisdom, should I take a razor blade and trim this protruding edge back flush with the shell, or do you think it will be ok as is?
I've done a search on lid alignment and came up with a procedure to fix that problem, and will do that as soon as the boss gets home from work.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I've really enjoyed catching back up with the forum the last few weeks.

is rutland the braided fiberglass? I don't think I'd trim it, but can you work the knife underneath and reset the gasket....
Maybe RRP or someone else with a rutland will chime in.... -
I would definitely not trim it and as suggested I too would run a blade under the offending part and reset it in a fresh dab of Permatex. As for overbite you need to loosen your bolts a tad and re-set your dome. That new gasket could not have thrown your egg out of whack.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I remeber Grandpa Grub had recently posted a good set of instructions on re-alining the dome. Maybe he will pop in with this again.John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon

Ron,
As advised, managed to work a putty knife under the offending part of the gasket and got it sealed back down where it needs to be. I too, doubt that the new gasket caused the underbite, but more than likely I upset the alignment when I went thru and tightened all the bolts. Some were actually quite loose from when I had picked it up at last falls Eggwegofest. I am going to give this little section some time to set up a bit, and then re-align the top using a procedure I found here earlier.
