Tried my first pizza on the egg. I cheated and bought dough from my local pizza guy. He laughed at me when I told him I wanted two doughs.. the second one just in case the first was a failure..well let me tell you this. NO MORE ORDERING OUT FOR PIZZA.. thank you all for the motivation to try these.. They can only get better. The wife even got involved and made her half.
No after pictures but it came out great...

Ready to eat... YUMO

It's not cheating! I agree, pizza off the egg is fantastic!Southlake, TX and Cowhouse Creek - King, TX. 2 Large, 1 Small and a lot of Eggcessories.
-
Excellent! Pizza from the egg is truly sublime. You're hooked.
In a pinch, big nuts for spacers.
Good idea. :cheer: -
That is what I used.. I work for a lumber yard and got 3 1" stainless steel nuts to space the stone up about the plate setter..
-
Also did my first pizza tonight. And I agree, sorry Papa Johns but YOU ARE FIRED!
The pizza was awesome.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to the Swamp.....GO GATORS!!!! -
Looking good. Nuthing wrong with getting dough from the pizza place. Post recipe....Looks goodLarge, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx
-
Tim, did you get the dough from Pizza Pirate? I haven't tried to cook pizza yet but plan to soon.
What is the purpose of the gap between the plate setter and the stone? -
No I got it from Napoli on the south side of Benicia The dough ball was three dollars. I think you could almost split one in half. Did you go to the Eggfest? If so we met there. I have cooked almost every other night on it.
-
I'll try Napoli's then.
Haven't been to an Eggfest yet, just got my first Egg for fathers day. May go to the fest on the Russian river in August, I see that I have a lot to learn. -
Just put some store bought sauce on the pie then let the wife do her half. She did ham and pineapple, then covered with some shredded cheese. My side was peperoni and salami with some mild peppers on it. Cooked at 525 dome for about 12 minutes. I used parchment paper to put on the grill then took the paper our about half way through.. worked great..
-
I would definitely go. One it is a great event..at least the one in Santa Clara was. 350 people and 30 cooks. You name it and it was cooked on the egg. All the people were very friendly and helpful. This site has been very helpful also. I just got my egg 2 weeks ago. BBQ almost every night any way and this is just something else to learn.. Take notes on what you do it makes it easier for the second cooks.
-
Thanks then, I may have to try some this weekend.
-
Sure looks good....I don't have a stone, need to get one NOW!
-
Just signed up for Eggs on the River, sounds like a good time.
One last question, why the gap between the setter and pizza stone? I thought that the pizza stone went directly on the setter. -
Like what one of the posters has in his signature... the egg is a hole you dump money into.. I race sailboats and I thought they were bad...boat= break out another thousand.. The egg is affordable, edible fun..
-
I read on this site it helps to equalize the heat..some people use the feet that come with the egg. Plus it gets it up a little higher..
-
That makes sense, thanks for your help
Happy grilling! -
How long have you lived in Benicia.. I live on Goettel Ct. I have been in this area almost 15 years, race sailboat out of benicia yacht club for almost 10 years.
-
Moved here about 7 years ago and live just off of 7th street on Alta Loma.
Paid too much for the house so can only afford kayaks. My wife, I and my 10 year old all three have one. Been out on the water here only a couple of times, still learning but having lots of fun. -
Nice job! and you're right it only gets better.
Here's a dough recipe that was put together by one of our resident pizza masters, ZippyLip.

Thanks I will have to try it. I have bought all the flour and a scale to measure the ingredients. Mostly a time thing, get off work buy some premade dough, light the egg and its done.. I am sure I will make my own dough soon. Thanks.
-
Great looking pie, tacodawg. I see that you used the parchment paper trick to get the 'za on the egg. We use that trick as well and it works great.

Muleskinner, if you put platesetter legs up and use the grid on top it gives you a good height in the dome and provides the gap between stone and PS to help with to much heat on bottom of Stone. We have tried both ways and seem to be able to do more pies without burning the later ones!

Thanks BHall235,
that is so easy I cannot believe that I didn't think of it. This is definitely what I will try for the first time.
