there is talk bantered about of maybe a couple of other forums opening.. we only have so much time to spend online and if we have to choose between 3 or 4 places to go, what will call to you? we might as well let it be known what we like or want. but here are things I like and why I choose this forum over the other ones I am members and lurkers at.
I like seeing who is on. having the list shows me who is signed in to chat. I like seeing the posts and who has posted. I admit there are people that I ALWAYS open their posts. they are people I know or like or always has great cooks that i want to see. i like how easy it is use use and view. that there are not 500 areas to have to hunt through. and that my friends are here. both ones I have and have not met. so why have YOU chosen to be active or just lurk here? I am sure it is not my burnt tater pic :) or my lobster dip? and it is REALLY not all about the egg.. that might have gotten me here, BUT...
so what is your dream forum that you would be as devoted to?? because any forum needs us, not us per say but people to keep it active, to survive as has been proved more than a few times with ones that started up and died....

It seems that so many are passionate about this place. I am lucky to get here, let alone worry about which 1 of 3 places I might prefer to visit. Hopefully I can learn to cook better on my egg regardless of the place.

I am sure pawpaw that we will end up with a nice place we can all continue to share cooking and use info. and if there is a new site tomorrow or some time soon there will be info on finding it.
or maybe they just will not tell us any more than they have already and take in all new eggers only LOL sorry.
lots of good info here and the nice thing is most are pretty friendly and will answer what ever you need help with :)

Fairly new guy here. At risk for seeming ungrateful I'll make a suggestion. If a new forum was to open I would much prefer a format that you could read all the responses on one page by scrolling down to read instead of having to open a new link to read each response.

The content/contributors here are amazing and that's the important part.

not that you will open this post cause i dont think i make your favorites list  but the bbq forum has a ceramic section thats dead dead dead, they probably wont like the tom foolery over there, but it may be a place to start until a home can be found. wouldnt mind seeing those from the old primo forum over there, i left when they upgraded from a family format to the box forum they have now

This is home Julie. I figure if it ain't broke don't fix it. When I first joined I couldn't understand the loose and informal format but it has grown on me. This is the only forum I participate in and is the only one I want to but I will go where my friends are if I have to do anything. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. I think the mother ship would be tupid to change anything. We are one of their greatest assets and it would be totally foolish to alter what works so well. They might just as well start making gassers!

I thought this already was our dream forum, who needs Facebook?.

I think a great forum would have:

    Lots of food porn
Lots of pics of pets, trails, flowers, moons(really, wow),grandkids, kids home from school/army.
    More food porn
People reaching out when someone is hurting, pet or family member or friend.
Lots of info to take the fear outta curing/dry aging
An Off topic forum no one uses
    Pumkin carvings that are unbelievable
Off topic threads between friends that I can choose not to read
Help, whenever asked, no matter how many times it has been asked
A search engine that will answer almost anything

I could go on, but you get my point

I am coming up on my 1st year, I have really enjoyed this place, whatever happens,
Thanks to everyone who have made it a wild ride

Being a newbie egger I haave gotten alot of my questions answered in a freindly and speedy way. People here are nice, as stated in other reponses it is nice to see who answered or responded to a post right there in front of you, the threads are easy to follow. Being notified that someone has responded to your post is great aas well as seeing who is online. As I said I am a newbie but I feel right at home here, no question is stupid and everyone makes you feel at ease with asking anything.

Oh heck, shutter, hope this place never gets like that, what a horrible place.

One thing we could change is to at some point in time is for members might help other newbe's with their questions and problems.

    This one.

Maybe with the ability to pin important posts like GG's introduction for newbies. And maybe a FAQ that holds answers to the posts we see all the time. And definitely a better search engine.

Wouldn't it be nice in flat view or any view to be able to click on the subjct or question and have the particular subject or question appear first and then the replies be next in the order recieved, instead of having to scroll to the bottom first?

    Julie,

Sort of ironic that we are asking and answering this post and yet there is a new forum planned (apparently) whose creators have not thought (apparently) that that was a worthwhile question to ask.

I would find it hard to believe that anything other than 1 main forum would last. In the interim, maybe a 2nd or 3rd would get started but like anything else, without the draw of new eggers looking for a place to discuss BGE things they will essentially become a chat board. There are other BBQ boards that have a draw for various reasons (comps, a particular smoker, bbq in general) Some share memberships when they have a common interest with that group, but they are not there just because it is another forum.

This is the only forum there is as far as I'm concerned. Started here in 1998 and plan to stay right here. I hope Miller House doesn't sell us out.

This is the way forum life should be!

Don't nobody f*** with it. Is that clear?

yes. Obama and Pelosi are bringing down the Big Green Egg forum based on the way Mitt Romney took down the boston.com forum.

I think things get farther and farther upside down the more north you go! And once you cross the Canadian border, I don't know what the hell happens to it! :woohoo: :woohoo: ;)

To me, the ideal forum would have 3 sub-forums.

    1. Chat Room. Talk to friends, goose each other, fantasize about Eggfests, show pictures of your dog and tattoos, etc.

    2. Basic BGE cooking. Pizzas, TRex, Spatchcock pictures, questions, and basic help.

    3. Advanced or Gourmet cooking. New recipes and exotic dishes.

It would have to be member enforced. We have a forum for chat (such as this thread) called the Off Topic Forum, but people are afraid their witty or fun talk will go unnoticed, so they post it in the forum that was designed for BGE cooks.

We would never have had to have the long previous thread if that organization had been in place.

very easy to skip that thread. no one is being forced to expose themselves to our vast and incomprehensible wit.

the forum is what it is, and chat can't ever be made to go away. it has always been here, frankly. at least since i got here 8 or so years ago. back then there were complaints that it wasn't as nice as it had always been, and that there was too much chat, too much fichting

"it has ever been thus" as they say.
