I happened to be at Kmart in Springfield Plaza (Springfield VA) and saw they had Royal Oak Steakhouse lump in the 8.8 lb bags for either 4.99 or 5.99. Just thought I'd let everyone know. Other Kmarts may carry it also. Jer

I bought ten bags at Menards when they had it for 3.99 a bag. Seems to smoke a little more then regular Royal Oak, so wouldn't say it's great for baking, but other wise a good lump.

I've never tried it yet, but perhaps the extra smoke will be good for steaks and hamburgers where a little extra smoke would be welcome. Will have to get a couple bags and give it a try. Jer

I've used several bags of it now and have seen nothing unusal with the amount of smoke.

Awesome, thanks for posting. Always nice to have another RO option so close. I've never tried the steakhouse variety, so I'll have to pic up some bags. I never thought to try that K-mart.

Stopped by on my way home and picked up two bags and a bag of hickory chunks. I'll have to give it a whirl this weekend. My father in law brought me a brisket yesterday. He has orders to buy me one every time he's in his local Wally World in Ruckersville when they drop the price. He got a nice 13lber for $1.74/lb.

I'm going to fire it up tomorrow I think and try out this Steakhouse lump with some of that hickory (I usually use fruit wood, but looking for a stronger smoke).

BTW, cooked a pizza for the kids and a really nice turkey meatloaf on the cast iron with onion, red and yellow pepper and cilantro...yes, cilantro. I love the flavor and touch of heat it gives. Also topped it with DP Red Eye and Blues Hog Tennessee Red...talk about a combination of flavors, it was actually pretty fantastic!
