Price of St Louis spares
Bordello
Posts: 5,926
I don't do a lot of ribs but a lady friend did some St. Louis spares in her oven and she said they were not very good and were tough. All I know is she did have them foiled. She didn't tell what her family said. LOL
Anyway I'm thinking of doing the good deed but while looking at out store ads they are running $3.99 lb.
Just wondering what most of you are seeing???
Thanks and a great week to all,
Bordello

I just glanced at a full slab last Saturday (not already trimmed to STL specs) and they were $2.27/lb.
-
Buy the regular spares and trim them to St Louis style. You get to keep and eat the trimmings.
-
At that price I would get the knife out.
Thanks,

:(
When I saw the ad price it got me to wondering about that but I will have to make the trip first so thought I would check with y'all. :silly:
Thanks,

Last time I looked the whole slab was 1.79 a pound but meat has been going up. I like to grind up the what is left over. You get quite a bit of meat left after cutting out the ribs.

I don't sounds pretty high. I know food prices are sky high though. :(
-
Smart for checking first.

Thanks, LOL not always doing the smart thing first if ya know what I mean.

$1.99 around here for Spares. Just cut them to St. Louis style. $1.79 on sale.
-
I can handle them prices.
For that price I'll take three cryo's of three. and make some fatties while i'm at it. -
I will tell you that at the wholesale level I'm paying almost $1 a lb more this year than last for St Louis. A year and a half ago I was paying 79 cents a lb for butts that now are considered "on sale" for $1.59lb.
-
It's looking like that is the way I might have to go, won't know for sure till I get to the store.
Thanks,
Bordello -
Shoot, I'm lucky if I can get butts or shoulder picnics for that price. :(

I can't find any pork for that price out here. Just trying to be a smart shopper but I don't think there is much hope for me.

I usually get my spares from costco untrimmed for $1.99 lb. They seem to be the meatiest around.
