Anyone have Egg issues with their neighbors?

My wife and I bought a house about a year and a half ago. Needless to say I got my XL BGE during the first Spring and the rest is history. We were lucky enough to get into a neighborhood that doesn't have an association so there were no rules about grills or smokers. Likewise, its a nice enough area so you don't have to worry about any troublesome neighbors trashing their yards, which is nice.
The house next door has been vacant for a long while and my Egg is on the side of my yard near to that property. The house is under contract now and the new owners will probably take posession by the end of the month.
I'm a little worried that they may complain about the smell during a long pork butt, or rib cook. Hickory smoke tends to be a little pungent. I personally love it, but some others may not.
Anyone have experience with neighbors who hate the smell of BBQ and complain? Crossing my fingers that they are cool.

Why not smoke a pork butt and give them the pulled pork as a 'welcome to the neighborhood' gift. Be hard for them to have a problem with your cooking on the egg after tasting the results. Jer

Mud Pig,
I had problems when I had a smaller property. They were always coming over

Don't worry about it, just give them some to try and you will make new friends fast!!!
-
Sounds like it's time for a housewarming gift!
-
Morning MP:
Just welcome them with some ribs when they move in and I'm sure you won't have any problems!
Seriously, I have never had a problem with any of my neighbors about the smell of whatever is cooking...only that I don't invite them over enough.Have a GREAT day!

That's true. I just got a new neighbor and took a pizza over to them. They were happy and we made new friends.

Usually it's the opposite! They'll be wanting your pulled pork :woohoo: :silly:
My neighbors have always been very cool about it. A few years ago, a neighbor was selling her house and joked that she should pay me to be smoking ribs while her open house was going on.Knoxville, TN

Heck my neighbor will ask me to cook stuff for his family and he buys enough for his and mine! The last few times I cooked pork butts, ribs etc I didn't pay for the meat!!
Now pizza is my gift to both of my neighbors on their birthdays'. I ask them every year what the want for their birthday's and both say a pizza party. I will cook around 10-15 16" pizza for a large group! -
No problems from my neighbors, they used to know on my door to find out what I'm cooking. I like to use a tip I got from our forum and I either cut an onion in half or quarters and mix in with the lump.
It will put a very nice aroma in the air along with your smoke. If they don't like it about all you can do is try to compromise and move the egg. Of course you can't control the way the wind will blow. Give them some and you probably won't have any trouble.
Good Luck,

MudPig, even with my cooking, the neighbors poke their noses over the fence to see what no good I'm up to.
I agree with the others to send over a nice welcome gift of your egged food or better yet, have them over for a BBQ.
In a few months from now, you'll be placing a post on how to ward off demanding neighbors. -
i pray that no one ever buys and fixes up the abandoned house next to me. they clean up that yard and im first on the list of trashy yards in my neighborhood  i get this feeling of being punished as a kid when i do yard work, must have happened alot growing up
theres a possibility i weedwhack the yard this year, but maybe it will be next year  i save yard work for rainy days  and it really has to pour out
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
Someone may have alredy answered this but just cook a butt the day they move in. Take it over as a housewarming gift and you should never have a problem.

I think they are a younger couple so I will definitely be sending over a welcome gift. Some nice ribs or simply inviting them over for some Q.
I'm hoping that it will be a none issue. -
Everyone on my block has a grill of some kind. It's Texas what do you expect? Have had no complaints about smoke or smell, most of them want to know what's on the grill.

or Jewish.
or Muslim.
but everyone loves brisket, don't they? well they should. -
And if after taking all the above advice they still have a problem, tell’m to kiss your ass, that usually workshappy in the hut

OK, OK, but the idea is there.

As long as their not Vegans I think a little mixed grill welcome will bring you a lasting friendship.LGE

Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all. -Harriet van Horne -
You might be the one having the problem when it's your smoke coming from their yard!"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Veggies cook up nicely, too

We have not had any complaints about the egg, but we have had a few, "what's for dinner" comments.
However, I will say that our neighbor's retired K9 (German Shepard) must be trained to alert for smoke because when he is in the yard, and the smoke starts rolling, he lets the whole world know that he thinks there is a FIRE!
The younger (currently working) K9 (not a shepard, but a smaller doge) never complains about the smoke, although he gets a little drooly sometimes. -

MP, I wouldn't worry in the least. The egg is a friend-maker. Unless you are right on top of them and smoking obnoxious stuff all the time, what could they possibly complain about? If you send over the care package, as mentioned, I think you will have no problems whatsoever.Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

I have 4 eggers on my short cul de sac... If we had a complaint, I'd be afraid what would happen... Clearly there would be pork butts coming from everywhere.
Seriously, I think your neighbor will likely become a great friend, especially if you come with a nice egged welcome dinner... -
Show them the results from the egg and convince them to purchase one as well. Problem solved.
-
No neighbors - no issues.
