My weekend

It seems as though I've been on a rib kick lately. I can't explain why.

This past weekend, the wife was out of town on a girls weekend having a grand time. I decided to call a few folks to come over and enjoy some ribs, ABTs and some adult beverages.

So, on Friday afternoon, after work, I went to the store and came back with these:

Everything seemed fine until the next day when I thought I heard rain. It wasn't supposed to rain for several more hours!!

Once I got the Egg up and running and put the ribs on, I went out once to make sure the ziplock back hadn't blown around and let water onto/into my Maverick temp unit. While out there, I checked the ribs to see how much rain was getting into the Egg and noticed a few drops had fallen down on the rack in the middle. So, I got back to roots (some may call it a little trashy), grabbed a pair of tin snips and an empty can and made a little rain deflector.

Everything seemed to be perfect the rest of the day, except for the rain....which stopped when I took the ribs off. The ribs drew looks of frenzied hunger.

So, I tried one for myself and decided that the mixture of apple chunks with a chunk of hickory was just the right smoke for this cook. My previous mixtures of chunks were never overly "fruity" if that makes sense. I may go all apple next time just to see.

None of the people in attendance had ever had an ABT. So, you can imagine the looks of amazement when I described the layers of flavor. Once they tried them, they were quickly demolished.

The rest of the evening was filled with good times and lots of embellishments about things in out past. Great times.

Sorry if the photos aren't the best. I try to remember to get the big camera out but never think about it. Also, explaining taking pics of food is always an interesting conversation to have!!
