Does anyone have source for excellent quality lump in the DC metro area? I can only find Wholefoods and Cowboy coal which are less than average.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Have you tried Walmart for the royal oak brand charcoal?

Wicked Good here:
VILLAGE HARDWARE
7934 Fort Hunt Road
Alexandria, VA 22308
(703) 765-1555 -
I've resorted to ordering Wicked Good on line. It is not any more expensive than Village Hardware, even when you take the shipping charges into account (at least that was the case last summer when I journeyed to Village Hardware only to find they charged around $23 a bag for Wicked Good).
Would you be interested in going in on a Wicked Good pallet? We'd need to drum up takers for at least 30 22-pound bags to make it work. -
I did the same as you. I was in DC on business a couple of months ago and considered picking up a couple of bags before the drive home but for $22 bucks I could order it online.

Wegman's charcoal is about $7/10 lb bag. It rated pretty good in comparison on nakidwiz.com. Look for a super Walmart as they will have royal oak. I picked some uptown by Fredricksburg last weekend.

While I recall paying about $15 for a bag of WG's WW on my last trip to Boston (since I was going up there anyway, I don't count the travel costs!) I gotta wonder if the local $23 for a 22 lb bag isn't still a good price. I usually stock up on Royal Oak at Walmart (and I live 20 miles away from the nearest one) at about $6 per 10 pounds. But Royal Oak is not nearly as dense as WG and doesn't last nearly as long. It seems to me that its pretty much a break-even deal at that price.

Is there a Restaurant Depot? They carry large bags of Royal Oak USA all year, much better price than Walmart.

If you are not a buyer for Resturant or Non profit orginization you have the option of being a member of the Kansas City Barbeque Society for $35 a year and that will allow you to get daily passes to purchase from Resturant Depot. There is a Resturant Depot in Alexandria off Eisenhower Ave.

I don't think it is a bad price, it is just that you can get the same price if you order online and have it delivered to your door. Saves the time and cost of driving to Alexandria, which, for me is probably a 15-mile drive each way. -
I was just at Walley World in Burke last night which usually doesn't carry Royal Oak lump (only briquets). I went in for something else, but noticed right in the front on the way out, there were two brand new pallets of RO lump right there, 10lb bags in the $6 range. Hopefully they carry it all season because it's so close to my house and on the way to my gym.
I am fortunate that I can also buy it in 20lb bags from the Rest Depot in Alexandria for $9/bag (I work for a non profit and conveniently signed up our org for a membership)...I just don't get there too often. -
Interesting on the Restaurant Depot passes. Does the KCBS membership allow you to get a full-out ResDepot membership, or just a pass that you have to print out and take with you on a given day?
Is there anywhere I can find more info about it? -
Let me get this straight. If I join the KCBS then technically I am a member of a NFP organization and then I would be qualified to purchase day passes or a membership to the Rest. Depot? Seems like it is too easy.
