Thats looks just a little too quick and easy.( AND BIG ) :ohmy:More meat please !! :-)

WHAT lasts 6 years?!!! A MAPP tank?!! Not mine.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

"Yes,this is the biggest one they make." -
I usually get a year or so out of a tank. Been using the MAPP torch for several years and a few tanks during that time.
-
Ahh. Not sure when I bought mine, but yeah, the nozzle should last a while. I'm on my second tank. The first didn't last as long as I thought it would - certainly nowhere NEAR a year! 2-3 months maybe? Not sure, but not very long.

In the winter I use the starter cubes - everyone has there windows shut so no problem with smoke. In the summer I use MAPP which lights nice and clean. I get an average 31 cooks out of a MAPP tank and try to pick a few up on sale.
Not sure where to dispose of the MAPP tanks or if I can get them refilled.Dave

I prefer 91% alcohol. Starter cubes are my second choice.
-
Wow,, I get 300-400 starts at least from one mapp tank as for disposal the ones I buy have a key to keep the tank open when empty and the instructions say to just add it to the normal garbage can.
-
Recently I have been using 'fat wood' to start up my eggs and my chiminea. I bought about 30lbs of this stuff and it works great. Light up two of the sticks and in about 15 minutes I have a blazing fire.
-
My spark trigger died a few years back and now I use a $2 gas welder's sparker.
-
Must be the size of my tank: Net Wt 16.92oz - They cost about $11 Cdn.Dave

I got a bernzomatic a few months ago and love it!

OK, I'm a relative nooobieee (that's a serious newbie ) in that I've only had my egg since Sep 2010. In that time, I tried:
[ul]
[li]Weber starter chimney
[li]The 91% solution (Isopropol Alcohol that is)
[li]Paper towel and veggie oil (with a match)
[/ul]
For a hot and quick cook, my tool of choice is the chimney.
For a cooler fire, like for a low-n-slow, I prefer the paper towel. I choose these mostly because they are fast enough for what I use them for and I already have the chimney - so they also happen to the best bang-for-the-buck solutions. -
This works on my mini :woohoo:
Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers. -
Use the search forum feature as this has been discussed hundreds of times.
-
Same size that I use, it only takes about 10 seconds in a couple of spots
-
You just never know when something new, different , or better will come along.More meat please !! :-)

I used an electric starter for a while. It worked great no sparks. Then I got a weed burner. It lights the lump quickly. It is my lighter of choice now.
-
A Weed Burner is used often, but I also like to use birch bark. It works really great!
-
I really like electric starters.
-
They make smaller ones that you can hook a camping propane bottle to, nice and portable and work so very fast.
-
weedburner or napkin and oil, hard to beat the weed burnerfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
-
I have a girly weedburner. Its shaped like a cane, and it uses the little propane tanks. I love it!
I loaned it to a friend, and have missed it dearly. Papertowels soaked in oil seems to take a little longer. -
They all work, and they are almost all easy. Just depends on what you want to spend. I have the blocks and chimney which I rarely use. A Bernzomatic MAPP torch :woohoo: which is pretty darned quick. Just ask yourself this: Do I want the egg ready in 10 minutes or 12 minutes? I mean You really should let the fire get well established anyway, so how much time are you really saving? It's all just more fun and toys for our wonderful hobby!! :cheer:

sorry... double post... my mouse left click is faulty

I used to use this same weedburner - I got it at Canadian Tire for $20. Then one day the flame crawled up the cane and came out at the end where the propane bottle is attached. I laid it down on the ground and ran for the fire extinguisher. It had gone out by the time I got back, but I have been to scared to use it since. I also see that Canadian Tire no longer sells it.
Now I use a dash of rubbing alcohol and a match. I think i like this method even better than the weedburner for how fast and easy it is.

paper towels with a little used oil.
