is everyone as satisfyed with xl size as with lge?
im gonna get another one, have lge, need more space.

is it fair to ask what the best price and where? i just want a naked egg and a placesetter ( i assume they make one for xl.) and pizza stone.

best ive found is 999 and free shipping no tax ( without stone and setter or nest)

maybe this is a bad word, but what about a primo?

I love my XL for its 24" diameter cooking space. I have never owned a smaller one so I cannot make any comparisons. I think $999 is a very fair price, but I would check with your nearest dealer in case you ever have a problem (which I have not).

They do make a placesetter for the XL and it seems more and more accessories are becoming available for this model.

I don't know anything about XLs or Primos, but I DO know that if you buy an egg online, you will have no warranty. At least I assume that's what you meant by no tax/free shipping.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

  • I have a 2-month old XL BGE. I don’t have eggsperience with the L BGE, but I do enjoy my XL. I bought it because I knew I wanted the room without having to add tiers. I paid about what you were quoted, maybe a few bucks less and I bought it locally.

I looked extensively at the PRIMO before I bought my BGE and I chose the BGE. I have said before, PRIMO’s main marketing revolves around (1) ceramics are cast in the USA (2) with the firebox divider and split grid and stones and drip pans, you can do direct and indirect at the same time, and with each half at different grill heights. (3) 2 piece firebox.

I went to see both. What I saw locally was a few PRIMO junior oval floor models that were beat up, but unused. I felt the BGE hinge system works better and felt more solid - again my opinion. I also feel that the bottom vent operated smoother on the BGE – my opinion based on 2 unused PRIMO floor models. Ceramics are equivalent and both are fine cookers.

My decision was based on - BGE has been around longer, more established company, and has a much wider range of support (this forum case in point), more availability of accessories (making it comparable to and exceeding the PRIMO’s flexibility), local BGE being a knowledgeable, dedicated BBQ place. Both local PRIMO dealers are primarily nursery or hardscape places – carry the PRIMO line but were not particularly knowledgeable or passionate about it, and did not have an XL Oval on the floor. The local BGE dealer was knowledgeable, and enthusiastic, etc.

I have XL and Large BGE.
Would give up my Large before my XL.
Love the extra grill space. Nice to flop down 2 "full" racks of ribs flat on one 24" grid.
I would do my best to buy local at a dealer and avoid shipping even if it's free. Voids coverage by BGE.
I would think about the new Flip Ring from:

  • I believe the flip3 ring for the XL is currently not available because Tom is working on and about to release a new setup which will take advantage of the now taller XL dome. See the note on this page:

    http://ceramicgrillstore.com/shop/shop/index.php?categoryID=108&category_slug=flip3-ring

I am holding out for the new XL rig myself, at which point I will order a stone and lump reducer ring also!
  • Where are you located? The place by me has XLs for $849, plus tax. They chanrge $65 for delivery, but if you can get another guy it would be free...just pay in food

    I live in NJ, btw.

I did read it. Just said you might want to hold off, newer model in the works.
Did not say currently not available. I'm sure the newer model will be even better but the Flip3 works great as is.

Would be great if people would put their location in their signature or in their profile.

Great idea. I just added my location to my signature. Of course, no one will have any idea as to where Crosslake is. :)
  • Yes, good idea. Just added my location.
  • I also use my location, but like you said, it won't mean much to folks. However, it does add something to the post.

  • This is my first BGE and chose the larger grill area. I've already found ways to fill it.
  • I have had an XL for just over a year. I can't think of using a smaller egg. I am able to cook different things at the same time with space to spare. I love the size of the XL. I would suggest purchasing local. Most likely you will enjoy the dealer experience (if you have a warranty issue).

I have both the plate setter and pizza stone and use them all of the time... homemade pizza WOW....and I can do 2 at a time.

    benny,

Have you considered another large? That is what I cook with most of the time. You can do parallel cooks or different temps at the same time. Commonality of accessories and so on.

im in tennessee, i was just up there in atlantic city playing in a poker touirnament. dang
would having it shipped void warranty? if it is bought over the phone

yes, but i need more space, its hard to do a large turkey, and the xl with the current large would allow to cook for larger groups with the lrge and xl together.
without having to stay up allnight with old ironside
  • The taller XL dome is what is out and shipping right now. I am told distributers should not have any of the old shorter dome around. Any further impending enhancements (such as stainless steel grid, which has been a rumor) you'd have to call the Mothership.

If you are referring to the new rig from ceramic grillstore, I don't know exactly when it will be for sale. I do know it is in production now.
  • One more thing about Primo, they only warranty their ceramic for 20 years, not lifetime.

if i call a place thats a dealer out of state, and they say we ship orders (not necessarily eggs, just there merchandise) over x$ is the warranty void? stuff shipped across state lines can sometimes avoid sales tax.

what about if i went to an eggfest an bought a demo? will it have a warranty?

i do not want to void a warranty..just a diffent dealer than the local one that i dont care for......maybe a bit better price too...even at same price ill buy elsewhere.
