Which model of vacuum sealer do you recommend? Im going to purchase one next week and would like any input. I've heard the Foodsaver V3840 is good. Its $175 on their website. I can get the V3440 for $120 at local store. Thanks for any input. Happy holidays!

Check this out.
http://www.foodsaver.com/Product.aspx?id=s&cid=0&pid=8395&promo=L0FECCC&refID=CJ&CJ_ID=1225267
It is a foodsaver that is normally 140 but type in the coupon code "L0FECCC". It knocks it down to 56.00 dollars with free shipping.
I ordered two last week and already received them. I haven't used it yet so I can't tell you how well it works but I imagine it will work fine. -
We have the Pro 2. When we bought it, it was the only one that you didn't have to wait something like 30 seconds between uses.
We also killed our first, cheap one in short order, but the Pro 2 has lasted for years. -
Santa is brining me this from Costco - Got it for 139 Cdn last month.

I got the one from costco as EggNorth linked to and have been very happy with it. One note, if you put a buttermilk biscuit in to it and punch the automatic button it will turn the biscuit in to a cracker!

I got the V3485 at 60% off. They have been having several 60% off deals lately so I would definitely go with one of those models. I think the basic operation of all the models is pretty much the same, so it is just a matter of which size rolls fit into it, if it has a built in cutter, etc.
If you can get that deal for 56 and free shipping that seems like a slam dunk to me!
Like tsbrady said- watch out if doing bread! Some other tips is you do have watch out if there is liquid (like leftover juicy steak). If liquid draws up to the sealer it doesn't always work. A paper towel barrier works well. If you happen to seal the toffee your wife made the jagged edges will puncture the bag...double bag it! :PWhich came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Here are some coupon codes:

They still have the V3485 so it is $80. You get the marinating canister and some canisters so that is a nice bonus. The marinating canister is pretty cool. I did some ribeyes this week and marinated them using the vacuum canister and I really think it made a big difference.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I ordered this and just received it....looks good but order some extra bags if you get it....comes with a fairly small amount and I think I will use it up quickly....

I called Foodsaver at (877) 777-8042 today and was told that sale price for the V3460 was ending soon and you had to make the purchase on the website.
While I was speaking to Glen (a sales person) I asked about what bags we needed...he told me about the different rolls...then he told me of a model V3485 that sells alone for $199. but, is bundled with $60. worth of rolls and marinade container...selling for $274.94 but, went on telling me today is the last day he could make a deal on it for $145. plus tax and shipping. I did go for it for a total cost of $159.07. Now I did the math and I got $60. worth of rolls and containers...so I am only paying $100. for a $199. stand alone machine and this is a better model machine than the V3460. I was also told I would get it before Christmas.
I paid about $100. more than what I was planning to spend but I get around $60. in suplies and a much better unit.

I also got the one from Costco with one of their coupons for $119 and have been very happy with it. Haven't used the marinating dish yet though.

I love my Cabela's CG-15. It's powerful, sturdy, replacement parts are easy to acquire and it was the only one in this price range that will seal the 15" wide bags. That feature has come in handy sealing whole chickens, small turkeys, various game pieces...etc. I also seal clothes in them when I go out in the field. Nothing like a dry set of uniforms when it's cold and raining outside. I have no real experience with the other brands mentioned but they may be able to do what you want at a lower price point. Happy shopping!

2Fategghead you are my hero today! I have been waiting for a bargain and this one can't be beat.
For others' information...The bargain price doesn't show on the internet, so be sure to call. Talked to absolutely the nicest sales person ever and am now waiting for Santa to deliver. Being a Costco Food Demonstrator I was waiting for a good deal there - they have the BEST return policy - but they can't come close to this price plus, with a FoodSaver, there is little need to return one.
Merry to all and thanks 2Fategghead -
I got that one this week with the discount and it arrived a couple days ago. I can't speak to it's longevity yet, but so far it works great.Egging on two larges + 36" Blackstone griddle

Don't forget about the 35% discount on everything on the foodsaver.com website. The details and link are in my previous thread:
http://www.eggheadforum.com/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&func=view&id=1011685&catid=1
this expires at midnight tonight. You can apply the discount towards anything I am told. -

Thanks a lot for the link and especially that code. Thanks to 2Fategghead for the phone number. I called and the sales rep said she didn't think the code was valid....until she entered in herself. She then told me she had nothing better to offer but I had to order online for that price. No prob, had the IPad in my truck. $56 plus $24 in extra bags and a roll w/ free shipping. I'm all setup. Thanks again!Large & MiniMax in Lexington, KY

Susan, I was out all day yesterday and my Internet was down last night but, I'm glad you found what you wanted at the price you were willing to pay. Merry Christmas to you and yours and Happy New Year. Tim -
Kentucky Wildcat Fan, Glad to be of service. I'm sure we will all enjoy our food savers. I have Buck Board Bacon almost ready to smoke today or tomorrow only wish my food saver was here so I could seal it up when it's done.
Merry Christmas, Tim -
Ive never heard of buckboard bacon. I googled it. Wow, that looks good. Thanks again. MichaelLarge & MiniMax in Lexington, KY

This is my first time making it and I never had it but, many here have and I'm told it's very good. With the price of bacon why not use you cooker to it's fullest potential. Tim
