Do 3 little butts = 1 big butt?

Essex County
Posts: 991
I waited too long to buy my pork butt and ended up with three pieces, each about 3.5 lbs. They're rubbed and ready but I'm wondering if 3 small chunks of pig will cook the same as one big one. Any advice would be appreciated.[p]Thanks from the land of wimpy butts.[p]Paul[p]

Essex County,[p]Well, I've never done little ones like that, but I would expect the same yield as a 10.5 lb.'er. Of course, your cook time will be shorter, and you will get more bark. Those are good things.[p]HowardB

Essex County,
If you mean cook time, no they will not take as long as a single 10 pound butt.

Essex County,[p]If they're not touching each other, they should each cook like their own separate 3.5 lb butt. Only other thing I could tell you is to watch out for hot spots. I cooked 3 8 lb butts last night and had a hot spot on one side. It cooked the largest one the quickest.

Sounds like a Butt Lite commercial: Why do you egg Butt Lite? Less time! More bark![p]Thanks for the guidance!
