Today for my third and final Christmas potluck at the office I took in the results of that 10# pork butt I egged this weekend. It was long gone by noon - in fact there was only 1/3 of it left by 10:20 when I went out to see if everything was in order as I had been on the phone for an hour.[p]I've posted this secret before, but I'll post it again...after putting that pork in the crockpot, I carefully (IN PRIVATE) opened and poured one can of Coca-Cola Classic all over the top. Don't use the diet stuff, nor the flavored Coke either. With the lid on that Coke will allow you to reheat the pulled pork without fear of burning nor taking on that lousy taste that comes from reheating meat - trust me, but just don't tell people! BTW I received this secret from Dave Spence, aka Dr Chicken, whom I also blindly trusted when he told me this trick and some other things...BTW - does anybody have a current address for Dave??? I'd sure like to converse with him...we used to be good buddies until he seemed to drop off the face of this earth! HELLO Dave...HELLO Carolyn...Pat and I would REALLY like to hear from the two of you...don'tchaknow?!?!

    RRP,
Hello again Ron, do you mean you cook the butt as normal on the Egg,
then when you go to reheat it, you place it in a crockpot and pour a coke over it while it is reheating only?[p]I hope this is clear? ;)[p]later,
    ron.[p]

RRP, - if you cooked the butt the day before, refrigerated overnight and the took to work in the crock pot, how long should you allow this to heat up (presumably on low heat) after the addition of the coke before eating?[p]Thanks,[p]

To ChefRD and Pigasso, yes, guys, I cook it as normal - in fact I put it on at 3:30 pm Saturday afternoon at 240, stablized it and then put the butt on after setting up the Guru. When it was done 19 hours later at 10:30 am Sunday I wrapped it in foil and further wrapped it in towels and then placed in a tight fitting Coleman cooler - it was there until I could pull it about 5 hours later. At that point I put the p/p in a new 2 gal plastic food storage bag and placed it in the bottom meat storage container of our refrig. Then this morning...60 + hours later I plopped it in that cold state into a room temp crock pot, poured the Coke Classic over it (in secret of course as many people would freak out) plugged it in, set it on low, and (as I said earlier) could only find 1/3 of Miss Piggy left by early morning! BTW this secret even works better for beef than it does for pork! Don't knock it until you have tried it, people...8^)

RRP, In addition to reheating pork, Coke or Dr Pepper (remember the hot DP craze in the 60's) works great when reheating sliced brisket. My grandmother, a southern gal, used a can of Coke when cooking hams.

    Happy Trails

  • RRP,[p]congrats on the potluck, but I have to admit that normally I don't hear many guys walking around talking about their 'egged butt.'

aka Mr. Earl ,[p]quite the contrary at my office. Many is the day that men and women walk around speaking the virtues of my great butt. [p]Heck, people want to pool their money so I will sell them some of my butt.[p]Life is good...
  • Mark Backer,[p]Well, I'll be danged. I wish I could people in my town more interested in my butt - my ribs and my salmon.
