Turkey Setup

I am planning on using my spider to cook indirect with my turkey. My question is how to set up the grill?
Can I place the spider feed down, making sure the lump is filled just to below the spider/pizza stone. Then place the BGE cook grid on top of the fire ring. Then place my roasting pan directly on the cooking grid? Or do I need to place a spacer between my roasting pan and my pan? Also, my pan is fairly long, and comes almost to the side of the BGE. Will this pan work, or do I need to get a smaller pan that gives more airspace between the BGE sides and the roasting pan? Thank you in advance for your input.

Not sure where you want to go here, or what the outcome is that you are looking for...But...
I do my turkeys with a plate setter, legs up, with a drip pan (spaced, not right atop the setter, but with an air gap) on the setter and the grid on the legs of the setter.
I roast at 300 - 350 F. -
I am trying to figure out how folks with a spider and a pizza stone set up their BGEs to do a Mad Max turkey cook. I do not have a plate setter, so I cannot follow the instructions for that setup. So anyone with a spider, please let me know how you go about grilling a turkey. Thanks.

Well...
I don't have a spider, but I'm thinking that you need to get a heat bearier (sp?) of some sort between the heat and the bird.
I would guess that a spider "up-side-down" would get you above the fire, but you WILL still need a pizza stone, fire bricks, or something to make the EGG into an oven...To make for an indirect cook.
Maybe others will chime here!!!!!
BTW, in reading back, I think you are on the right track and YES!!! Space is something that is needed to keep a good "heat flow" and yet not burn everything!
