Broke down and replaced my Gasket...

The gasket on my BGE has been shot for most of the life of my egg...hasn't seemed to make any difference. However, I took the day off and while thinking about meal planning for the weekend cooks, I was cleaning up around the egg and said, "heck, why not?"
A couple/three hours later and one trip to the dealer and the job was done. Now I'm a captive of some low temperature cooks for a couple weekends in an attempt to not burn off this one right out of the box.

No directions, just sharing my experience...would I do it again? Not if I can avoid it. Maybe it will help hold in the heat better during my snow cooking sessions...Keep On Eggin'

Tony,
You are making some of us look like bad parents.

Nice white nomex. After the first cook you will be able to see the leaks. Good looking job.

Can you please post a follow up in a couple of weeks (or shoot me a PM)? I am curious to know how the new gasket affects the performace of the grill. Mine blew out about the first week and I have not replaced it. I'm wondering whether it's worth it. Thanks.

Nice setup you have there, and great job on your gasket.

Nah, let it rip! I think that mindset was related to some bad adhesive and gaskets years ago. I replaced three of my eggs with nomex and did a clean burn for the first trip with the new seal. I wanted to burn any drippings from the glue, and give it a good clean out. That was last summer, and they are all holding strong still. -
Your right about the temp thing frankly I won't remember anyway, or I'll walk away during a football game and it will run up regardless...ha.Visit my blog, dedicated to my Big Green Egg Recipies at http://www.bigtsbge.blogspot.com You can also follow my posts on FaceBook under the name Keep On Eggin' or the link http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Keep-On-Eggin/198049930216241

Kip, do what I did, put in some smoking chunks and crank it and close while smoke is rolling, if it ain't coming out of the rim I'm thinking you have a decent seal. Also, if you close down and your lump goes out quickly you have a decent seal too.Visit my blog, dedicated to my Big Green Egg Recipies at http://www.bigtsbge.blogspot.com You can also follow my posts on FaceBook under the name Keep On Eggin' or the link http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Keep-On-Eggin/198049930216241

I put a nomex gasket on my XL last summer. I was a little sore the next day though. The XL dome is HEAVY! By the way, the gasket is holding up fine after a lot of heavy use.
