I'm new to this site but I just purchased a Large Egg and am looking for a good cooking thermometer. Any suggestions?

Seems like a lot of people on here use the Thermapen.
Large, medium, small and a mini. Egg'n, golfing, beer drinking, camping and following football and baseball.

If you mean the type where the probe is left in the meat, get a Polder at Bed Bathe and Beyond or Amazon. They only cost ~$20 and they last. I've had mine for 7 years and it is still going strong.

for instant read i use the thermapen. for low and slow monitoring meat and grill temps i use the maverick et73. if your looking at the maverick wait a few months as they are updating it with better featues, google et732fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Second the Thermapen. Expensive, but worth it.

FYI- you probably want both types- a thermometer to measure the temp of food during the cook (for slow cooks like a pork butt, roast, turkey); as well as an instant read.
I would definitely consider a maverick like Fishlessman suggested. The ET-73 is the current model if you are in a hurry for one. It has some quirks- but works well. If you are not in a hurry you might wait for the ET-732. Both units have a probe to measure both the temp of the meat, as well as the temp of the smoker which is really cool. You can sit on your couch and check things.
For an instant read the thermapen seems to be the weapon of choice. It is expensive- but is accurate and has a fast response time.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Your Polder has lasted 7 years? I've had two that maybe lasted a total of 10 uses. What is your secret?

I've had my Polder for almost that long too. 'Course, I don't use it (or any other thermo) all that much.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Got an email today, looks like thermapen is doing a sweepstakes for a free thermapen. you have to like them on face book to enter, but it might save you $100! -
