I've had a 10 pounder on at 240 under the control of my Guru for 4 hr and 20 minutes now and the internal temp according to a new, but seemingly trustworthy wireless Taylor brand is telling me the internal temp is already 104. I'd hate to think that the Guru will start ramping at midnight or something cauz I'm sure not going to get up during the night and pull this thing! Geez!!! BTW I found my brand new wicked Bear Claws and I bet those are going to shred that cooked butt in minutes.

RRP,Howdy! Same thing happened to me last night with my 2 Taylors!. Had 4 pork butts @ 27 pounds cooking steady at 250. Within 3 hours, internal was 104 and it was only 9 p.m! I was worried and no way planned to disturb my beauty sleep. Well, hubby (bless his heart), got up and checked at 4 a.m. and all was well. Internal was 175 and the egg was cooking at 220. Pulled those precious bundles of joy at 9 a.m. @ 197 internal. The final result...well, I'm still working on making 20 dozen red chile tamales with my smoked pork. I needed a break and saw your post and felt compelled to respond. By the way, congratulations on your big month in January. Lucky you! P
  • RRP,
I'm not sure I understand your concern. They have a long way to go to hit the plateau and then of course they will sit there for a long time in the plateau. So far, it sounds normal.

    Peggy,
Thank you for letting me know I wasn't out there in lululand! I am assuming that it will reach a plateau soon and quit bothering me! The last butt I did plateaued twice and messed with my mind then too...Do you think this may be some animal revenge against ceramics and technololgy? LOL
PS Thank you for your kind closing remarks. As if I wasn't counting...I now only have 17 working days to check off my calendar!

RRP, Yea, I'm no expert, and mine were messing with my head too. I simply shut down and went to bed. Yes, good luck with your transition. I'm sure you will be so busy with all the things you wanted to do, but did not have time. Take Care

Doug, it has just seemed like the rise in internal temp has been far quicker than normal - that's all...also I guess I haven't quite converted to blind faith that the Guru will watch over my poor butt while I sleep...8^)
  • RRP,
Oh no! You have revealed my secret identity! (Doug)[p]Anyway, I'd say that making 100ish degrees in four hours sounds normal to me. Let us know what happens!

The Naked Whiz, I agree, mine usually reach around 120° to 140° and then starts slowing down to a crawl.
