How is it done? It doesn't seem like there is a way to do it the usual way without making a total mess!

BGE also makes a dust pan that fits under the vent or you can just cut your own

Troll those yard sales and pickup an old shop-vac. They work great and make it a heck of alot easier to get the Egg completely cleaned without much work.
