I checked the BGE product list and can find nothing about the chiminea. Does anyone know if they still make them?[p]I also referenced the forum for information about the chimineas and most of the posts were old, so I would appreciate some input about the pros and cons of owning one.[p]Thanks[p]Outlaw

Outlaw,[p]They still make them and they are available thru the BGE store in atlanta for sure.[p]I love ours. It's 1/3 the size of the usual terra cotta ones, but puts out as much and probably more heat. it's very low profile with a small footprint, so it doesn't chew up 20% of your deck or porch. [p]The only downside is that it gets hot (HOT) on the outside. Unlike the Egg cookers, the chiminea gets white hot and casual contact of a child or the lower leg of a slightly buzzed adult would result in a pretty good burn.[p]As I said, I love ours and look forward to many fall, winter and spring evenings sitting around it or cooking near it.[p]

Mark Backer, [p]My husband has a scar to prove that![p]Another plus for the BGE chiminea is it won't crack like a clay chiminea when it does get really hot and you can load it up as much as you want.

J Appledog,[p]true and true. My answer is, if you've got little critters, either watch them, get a fireplace gate for around the chimnea or just keep the critters inside.

Mark Backer,[p]Glad to hear the good reviews from WessB and yourself. I've been itching for one also, but I think it'll be on next year's wish list. What do you burn in it? I remember that there was some disappointment in the wax logs that were used when The Dizzy Pig team and DrBBQ had one at the Royale in Oct.[p]Paul

  • Outlaw,
We also love ours. We collect small limbs and twigs year round and burn them in the chimnea. The kids also love to grill weenies and marshmallows for smores over the top.[p]~nikki

PapaQ,[p]I use regular firewood with the pieces cut in half (not long and narrow but short and fat wise). I tried lighting it with my mapp torch, but I have found that the little duraflame lighting sticks are better.[p]HTH

Mark Backer,[p]Thanks for the reply. I may get one next spring.[p]Paul

  • Outlaw,[p]I ordered mine a week or so ago through my local dealer. I hope it gets here this week. I will carry it along for winter camping in the RV as well.[p]I understand juniter wood and especially pinion wood work great to keep away any bugs and also smell good too.[p]I cant wait....[p]Semper Fi,[p]MC
  • J Appledog,
I bought my chiminea in July 2003. It cracked in August 2004. I still use it, but keep a bucket of water handy as well as a fire extinguisher. I'm trying to get it replaced but was told they are only guaranteed for 1 year instead of the life time guarantee on the eggs. [p]Big John
