6 Racks of Baby Backs

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
Has anyone done 6 racks of Baby backs on indirect place setter setup. I have seen Tim M site where he does 6 but they are on direct. So with inverted place setter will the six Racks fit. I have seen lots of different ways one being mustard then rub and wrap and set over night in Frig. Has people gotton good results with this. What about doing Ribs 3 hr 1-1-1 will this be to tough with 6 racks? I will be using inverted V rack to hold the ribs. I was thinking of doing 250 for about 5 hours

  • gdube16,[p]You're right on track. I have cooked 6 slabs using the set up you are taking about. I like a lower temp and longer cook.[p]Indirect is the key. You might have to rotate the outer racks to the middle once.[p]Good luck,[p]CWM

    gdube16,
Are you talking about 6 FULL racks or 6 half racks. I have done 6 half racks w/ the platesetter, drip pan combo. I have also seen a picture where someone did 20 FULL racks at once on a large, but I don't think he was using a platesetter. Either way , I bet you could squeeze them on. Use the 3-1-1 method (5 hours total) and you should be fine.

  • bigmikej,[p]Yes I was going to do 6 full racks, Another question on light ing the fire. I have seen where some will bring the Egg up to the desire temp then put the plate setter and ribs on, or light the fire once the starter qube burns out and the fire is going put everything on then bring the temp up to let's say 250. Does it matter?

  • gdube16,
I'v actually done 9 full racks (cut in half.. so 18 half racks)
This was done witha platesetter- indirect.
What I did was kind of build a rig structure around a rib rack
like a card house of ribs. .
    Worked pretty good for me.
I was strapped for time so i did the 1-1-1 method.[p]-WAB

  • So what about using yellow mustard and rib rub. What does the mustard add? When lighting should I get fire going bring up tempature then add place setter and ribs, or get fire started add everthing then get the temp up to 250 Does it matter[p]

    gdube16,
You may get more smoke flavor if you stick them on as the egg comes up to temp. I have done it both ways and had success w/ each.
