BBQ Guru Competitor model problems

My older model Guru has been acting up lately as if it has an internal electrical short or something. It has never gotten wet or damaged in any way. It can be working just fine and then suddenly it dies and the lights go off without even touching or moving anything! Sometimes it will come back on - other times it flickers off and on and dies again. Can the folks at BBQ Guru diagnose my problem? Any body have a similar problem? BTW there are no loose connections, bare wires or anything else. TIA

  • I think the folks at BBQ Guru can do a better job than any of us, lol! Give them a call. They will probably have you send it in.

I know, Doug, and I have already sent an email a few minutes ago. Guess I was just wondering if anybody here had the same experience and might offer a token comfort of "it will be fine"

Guru folks are the best place to start.

Nevertheless, "IF" there has been no physical damage or chance of water damage then look at the power supply from the AC plug down to the connector going into the unit. Winding wires, over time can cause a break or short.

If you have any type of humidity issue then you could open the unit and look for 'white' deposits in/on/around the electrical connections and on circuit boards. If you find any, with power unconnected, use isoproply alcohol (91% alcohol) and a "Q-Tip to clean the spots residue up. If there are any ribbon cable plug in's then take them out and make sure they are clean. Use an clean eraser to clean the male leads off. That is about all you can do as a user.

Thanks, Kent - good to see you posting again!

I really don't think my problems are from moisture at all - in fact for at least a year now it has been running 50° higher than what my Tru-Tels say which get confirmed by my two Thermapens! Something inside that little box box just isn't right!
