Vertical Turkey Roaster

edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
Has anyone used the vertical stand to smoke a turkey? What were the results? Trying to decided whether to buy one for the Thanksgiving bird. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.[p]Thanks

  • nflock,
I have the chicken vertical roaster and am using it for my turkey. I have used it for chicken and it is awesome. Stand it up in a drip pan for best results. The chicken one will probably hold up to a ten lb. bird, i'm cooking a 9 lb. today. Anything bigger will need the turkey vertical roaster.

  • brill,
Thanks for the info. How do you prepare the bird? What temp? Do you baste it or cover it? Please let me know how long your 9 lb bird takes. I've ordered a 10-12 lb bird so it shouldn't take too much longer.[p]Thanks
    Neil

  • nflock,
I bought mine with the egg. Along with the chicken variety.
If it does anything like the chicken it'll do fine, and yes, I'm risking the tnksgiving dinner on it.
Like the prior post, it'll be indirect, over a drip pan with (your choice of) rubs and sauces.
I'm trying plum and alder chips this year.
    have fun.

nflock,[p]The vertical is all we have used for turkey's. The only offering I have is when you bring ol' Tom in let him rest for a few minutes and when you begin to carve make sure you are over a deep platter or dish - a lot of clear juice will come out and it makes the gravy extra tasty. We carve on the roaster BTW. Good luck.
