Are Foodsavers worth the money?

I'll never be without one.

Really ? Mine is about 20 years old and never failed me. Once I thought it had gone bad because it wouldn't seal, but I found out it was the batch of packaging rolls.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

The only problem I have found with the food savers are after you cook a large pot of sauce or other items that you break down into smaller serving sizes, the kids come over to do some "shopping". :woohoo: :laugh:Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

I love mine. I had a cheapo Seal-a-Meal that I received as a gift. As often as not, the auto seal wouldn't work so I decided to spring for a GOOD one. Probably too good, but I have no complaints. This thing is HUGE! It's good I have a place where I can leave it out on the counter because if I had to put this monster away and drag it out every time I needed it, I just wouldn't use it. As it is, I use it all the time. Does a great job!!
It's a Weston PRO-2300, the OEM model of the one Cabela's sells. Love it!!
Here's a pic. 2 Quart saucepan and knife block for scale...
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

If you buy one from costco and it fails...just take it back and they will refund the money...no questions asked. Then you can get the current model. Save the box and reciept and you are good to go.Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

I am on the fence about getting a full on food saver (although I know I will eventually), but in the meantime I got a reynolds handi-vac
Here is the rub/awesome part
Reynolds stopped making bags for this unit so the bags are expensive as hell on Amazon BUT you can get them for a good price through HSN
http://kitchen-dining.hsn.com/debbie-meyer-geniusvac-bags-1-quart-storage-bags-set-of-40_p-5817061_xp.aspx
THE GOOD PART:
Since the bags are expensive and no one uses it really you can get the starter kit on amazon for like $5.
They work great and are nice because they are a bit more portable then other units out there. I fully endorse this product. -
I am a tue believer in them. I bought a cheapo off ebay, $20, about 5 years ago. I use it all the time. I buy whole rib eyes for under $5 a pound. Trim them and dry then in the fridge a little; then seal and freeze them. After thawing, they look as good as the day they were frozen. Buy your meat on sale and save a bunch. Food Saver also has internet discounts on the bags. You can buy them with a discount code for 66-75% off. I reuse my bags, just don't microwave them. Thaw the meat and clean the bag immediately. Bags are good for 4-5 times. As they get smaller they wind up getting used for a couple of burgers ar some links of sausage.

Yes. Even as a single person I save big bucks with mine.

Michael,
That's what I want. I have already asked Santa. My foodsaver three crapped out and I bought a rebuilt one. I am so sick of not having one. I throw out so much food it it's shameful.

Steve, just to be clear, there are no bells and whistles. Doesn't cut to length from rolls, doesn't have any bread or liquid content settings, takes up tons of countertop space. There are no accessories available either, other than bags. Also, you have to Macgyver something if you want to connect it to a (different brand) cannister for, say, marinating. You can, however, press the "seal" button while it's sucking if you want to do delicate stuff.
All it does is suck and seal. But it DOES suck!!!
The seal is about 1/4" wide too. My old one was maybe 1/16". I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!
