You have a puffball
-
Yup, Puffball is probably right.
Please note in the Wiki article where it states . . .
"While most puffballs are not poisonous, some often look similar to young agarics, especially the deadly Amanitas, such as the Death Cap mushroom. It is for this reason that all puffballs gathered in mushroom hunting should be cut in half lengthwise. Young puffballs in the edible stage have undifferentiated white flesh within; whereas the gills of immature Amanita mushrooms can be seen if they are closely examined." A mistake along these lines would not be fun.

My mushroom expertise is such that I can only safely eat three varieties. Morels, sulfur shelfs and puff balls.
Yours are puff balls and they are safe to eat. -
Thank you Pci

Thanks Gator. I'll look into it further. I don't know if I'll eat it just yet but, I may if I know what to do with it. It has a good smell. Tim

Thanks Willie. I'll look into it further. Tim

I'm ready.

They appear to be Puffballs!! Yes, safe to eat but only when the flesh of the puffball is white and firm. Diced and dry sauteed. Add no water.
-
Fungi.AKA a shroom.Boil it and add to grape Kool-Aid.If you drink it and don't die or get high,you shoulda sauteed it!

As an old biker that went to collage I LIKE THAT response Hoss!! :laugh: :pinch: As to what it is all I will say is my botney profeser in collage told us there were only 4 people in the state he would trust to eat a shroom in the wild from and he was NOT one of those 4 people! Humm collage botney prof. and he doesnt trust to eat'em wild....

In military survival training I was clearly taught; NEVER EVER EAT MUSHROOMS. They provide no nutritional value in survival situation, and more importantly they can kill you.
Just as the saying goes for "old bold pilots, the the old saying for mushroom hunters also holds true;
"There are old mushroom hunters, and there are bold mushroom hunters. But there a no old, bold mushroom hunters."
So unless you are an expert at mushroom identification, you have no business eating them. You are literally betting your life when it comes to eating wild mushrooms from your yard or the woods. As much as I like this forum, and respect the opinions of those that post here, I would never bet my life on a quick identification of a mushroom just from a photo you posted. I believe your life is more valuable than that. The risks are just to high.
