What brand are you buying and why?[p]I'm looking for one NOT injected as I'm doing the brining thing this year.

  • ScottinKC,
If you get a Butterball "FRESH" they are not injected, IF FROZEN they ARE injected.[p]Cheers,

  • ScottinKC, this doesn't address your question at all but is a good place to say: I looked at turkey's yesterday and the two most popular brands here are honeysuckle white and butterball, about the same price but the honeysuckle has half the solution as the other.

Good to see you back around Bob.[p]Funny how they word it though! Nothing like marketing. Instead of "pumped". "treated". "injected". "with up to a 12% solution of stuff you can't pronounce" they say [p]"The breast meat of frozen Butterball Turkeys has been deep basted for juiciness and additional flavor."[p]LOL
    Beers. Easy on the V!

ScottinKC,[p]I wanted to brine my own this year again but went to three grocery stores and they only carried prebrined birds. I did buy two of them. heck for 6 bucks for a twenty lb bird why not. will still try and one that has not been brined, but i wish the processers would leave some things alone. Well i guess some do and charge 3 times as much and call them all natural or organic.[p]Scott

  • ScottinKC,
for years now, i've been buying the fresh 'shadybrook farms' turkeys at the safeway. .. they do contain 7% solution, but like i've said, i don't brine anyway. . ..what they have been is consistently good turkeys . .very juicy and very flavorful. ..

    Nature Boy,
NB, I think I've mentioned this in private emails, but perhaps not on this forum:
In Canada they are allowed to actually use the word 'Seasoned' to describe this practice! LOL Now, how is THAT for deceptive?!

eggor,[p]I haven't been out to look as I probably won't be cooking for T-day. Have you looked at the "natural" type groceries? Seems like they'd have fresh, unbrined.

eggor,[p]You might try Sunflower too. They're the new, natural grocery that took over the Toddy's location. I've found their prices to be very competitive. In fact, some things are about the same price or lower than "conventional" groceries.
  • ScottinKC,[p]I ordered mine from whole foods. Will pick up Wednesday. The free range bird at 1.89 per pound.
I started doing this about 3 years ago, they run these ad's in the newspaper about how this turkey has been served at the White house. Blah Blah.[p]Well I got sucked in, and I must say it is the best Turkey I have eaten with the excpetion of Baffoni's. Who is a little poultry farm in Johnston RI but you need to order your turkey in July. Not only that , if they are free range in Johnston RI no telling what else the birds are eating [p]DR

eggor,[p]I just found an online flyer. They're selling Diestel free range, all natural turkeys for $1.59/lb. From what I am able to determine, these have not been injected.
