vertical turkey roaster

How large of a turkey can you cook on the large egg using the vertical rack? .....& how long would it take to cook a 20# turkey at 260 degrees?

    I did a 13.5# turkey on a vertical rack, in a drip pan, on top of 1 layer of firebricks on the grid. It was just about touching the top of the dome and the thermometer probe. I will bet without the firebricks you could fit a much larger turkey.

    I believe you could do about any size turkey. Using the plate setter and drip pan, ( I never use a drip pan, I fold some foil and make one I can though away)cook at 350, with a polder in one of the thigh's. Pull at 180 and enjoy. I have done a 16 pounder with NO problem sitting on the verticle rack. Actually, I don't see a problem with the turkey sitting on the grill brest up if it is too large for the verticle rack. Doing inverted heat, no more then a smoking oven.[p]Jerry

    Sharon,[p]Did a 22 pound on a vertical with a drip pan and it j-u-s-t missed the top of the dome. I would suggest you cook at the regular suggested oven temp of 350º as I did a low and slo cook with a 16# bird one time and my family didn't like the texture. I didn't notice the difference but they sure did. Not sure why the fire bricks the drip pan will do it or use a pizza stone. One caution, keep an eye on your dome thermometer that it doesn't touch the bird stick it through a cork that way you can adjust it and still get your dome temp accurately. Good luck
