Fun to see the cork, Marine Cook! JCA

Marine Cook,
Congrats...you will have many great cooks on it..treat it like a small egg (ifyou have one) and you will be fine......it will NOT cook like a large egg due to the proximity to the coals....feel free to e mail if you need any advice...ENJOY[p]Wess

Marine Cook, You must be proud. A true chip off the ole block.

<p />Marine Cook,[p]I bought it mainly to carry in our motor home but after tonight it will serve double duty at home and on the road. I was amazed at how fast it came up to temp. I actually watched the temp size to 350 where I leveled it of in a matter of a few minutes, and the chicken semd to cook much faster in the mini. I'm very impressed. This makes 3 BGE's and a Primo Oval I have one more wish for a XL to finish the family collection. They make for great family heirlooms.[p]Semper Fi,[p]MC[p]

J Appledog,
What is the purpose of the cork? To hold temp gauge in place?[p]CWM
-
Marine Cook, like I said, a chip off the ole block. I just bought a mini, and really haven't mastered it. Keep us(or me) posted on successful cooks. [p]WessB's advice to "treat it like a small" sounds good. I use my small most often because it heats up fast and is good for smaller cuts.[p]Scott

Car Wash Mike,
The cork keeps the thermometer stem from sticking in so far and possibly sensing the food temperature instead of the dome temp. Don't ask me how I know this. [p]BOB
Mini egg is great for quick cooks!
-
BobinFla,[p]I won't, so thank you.[p]CWM
-
BobinFla,[p]Ding! Ding! Ding! You are right sir. I figured out that little trick when I did my first low and slow with my wireless maverick thermometer to hold the dome probe in place.[p]Semper Fi,[p]MC

Hey Wess,[p]I plan to use it for those quick evening meals, Chicken, Chops, Burgers, Steaks, and who knows what else maybe some personal pizzas. I know someone had a post on how they did that a while back. [p]Semper Fi,[p]MC

BobinFla, I'll just bet that you know that because I came up with that solution & posted it about 5 years ago - after I purchased my mini & became the joke of the forum for buying one. I don't like to toot my own horn but my husband read this post and said that he hoped I'd stick up for myself.... JCA

BobinFla,
I also came up with the cork solution to holding the temp gauges in place. Works way better than that interior clamp thingie. And for some reason or other, I have more than enough corks. I wonder why?
Cheers,
G.

Chef Arnoldi,
Just curious: Is your indirect accomplished, simply by the pizza stone under your pie? Or is their some other medium you're using underneath as well. I've got a Mini but haven't ever used it except for a few burgers, steaks, chicken breasts, etc. Kind of squirrel-sized dimensions down there!
Big Murth
p.s. What do you do for a Daisy Wheel? I've got a funky set-up with an old tunafish can with some holes punched in the top.
-
Big Murth,
BGE now makes and sells a daisy wheel for the mini..[p]Wess
-
J Appledog,
I *just* figured out the solution when I saw the picture with the cork. Up 'til then, I only had the problem, no real solution. Now that I have the proper (shorter stemmed) thermometer for my Mini, I shouldn't have a problem.
;-)[p]BOB
