Wanted some pecan chunks so drove about 30 miles or so to my BBQ Galores, got 1 each 8# bag pecan and cherry.
They had BGE lump so I got a bag, didn't look at the price. $29.99 I'll be mixing it with something cheaper. LOL
Last time I do that, I hope. :(
Cheers all,
Bordello

makes R.O. at Wally World for $6.49/bag a pretty good deal.
-
Bob, $30. bucks for a bag of BGE lump 20 pounds? Like they say on TV "That's To Much".
You better get a lot of food cooked with that lump. No wasting. Tim -
BGE needs to take another look at those prices. That's stupid high I think.
-
Bob,
That is ridiculous. We don't even pay that here with our taxes.

If it wasn't 30 miles away I'd take it back and get 4 bags of RO at wally world. 40 lbs and change back.Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

not sure why BGE is to blame - BBQ Galore sold it so the mark up is their's not BGE. Besides though most retailers set their prices based on what the market will bare - and obviously Bob's purchase today confirmed it.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

You will pay around $25/bag for it at a BGE dealer. I don't see how they sell any at all

Especially since it's purported to be the exact same product in a different bag.
-
Yep,
Still shaking my head over that one. Live and learn.

And I have one bag of that so will use it to mix. Just figured cause I drove that far might as well pick up a bag BGE but never thought the price would be that high.
Wonder what their brand sells for??? That's probably why the BGE is so high, they want you to buy theirs I'll bet.

Ron,
That's cause Old Bordello was too stupid to look. It will be different next time for sure.

I learned my lesson, that's for sure.

Wow that is high even for BGE lump (which is R.O. lump in a Big Green Egg bag). My dealer(s) in my area sell it for $22-23 which is still too high. They run sales a lot for $17 on it. I usually buy Wicked Good from my dealer. Great lump and I get it for $16 which is a good price IMO for a quality lump.
-
Exactly, but I drove there yesterday and couldn't find it so this was my second trip.
Oh Well,
Thank,

I learned my lesson a while ago about BGE lump. I've been using a lump I really like - Full Circle - for a few months now, and it's either $4 or $5 per 8.8lb bag at the local grocery story.
-
Well that was a first and a last for me. Keep doing what you're doing. LOL

It was almost $30 when I went to my BGE dealer a few weeks ago. This weekend I got some RO at Wally World, and a 20# bag of lump at GFS for $11.99.
I used the RO for a pork tenderloin and sausages last night, and it worked fine. It was smaller chunks than BGE, but burned well, no excessive ash.
The GFS feels like it has larger pieces, I expect I'll try it out over the Labor Day weekend, but I've heard good things about it -
I saw that but where??? Old age is here. LOL
Will look for it, I only go to a few places.

Bordello -
My local BGE dealer has the BGE brand lump for just over $20 for 20 lbs. He also sells "Redneck", which he says is close to the BGE brand, for just under $20. There's a lump charcoal producer about 80 miles away, who produces/sells under the Fire King brand, and sells a 20 lb bag for $6. Many southern MO producers won't sell to the public, but this guy (phone call) says he does. I'm on my way next week for 10-15 bags. Will pay for my diesel plus some.

Saving those eyes for other sights Bob?? you have not been on in a while. glad to see you post
-
Hope it works out well for you. I expected to pay a buck or two more but not $30. :(
Good Luck,
Bordello -
Sounds great, hope it's good stuff and works well for you.
Let us know how it works out.

I've had my Large about three years, and I've used nothing but BGE lump, but that's just too much, and I have to drive much further to get it.
-
Hi there my "Hooker" Friend,
Yes, I have been on but not posting much. Have a 9 lbs butt to do in the next day or so, that's why I wanted the pecan. Well, at least I got that and some cherry chuncks. :woohoo:
Thanks Julie,
Bordello -
I've noticed more and more grocery stores with lump lately. Kroger in Knoxville, TN had it a few weeks back, for $6-8. I got 40#'s at Sam's, Frontier I think is the brand, for $15. Have no idea how well it will work, but it seemed to be a good price. Still finishing up a bag of RO. BGE lump has really gotten too much for me to deal with.
-
Well, BGE sets the price that BBQs Galore has to mark up. Any way you look at it, BGE lump has always been pretty expensive. The Naked Whiz
-
Ouch. Good to hear from you though.
I just loaded up at Wal Mart for about $6.50 a bag for RO.
Where is the BBQ Galore? The one near me went out of business and I heard the company was bankrupt. -
I can see why at those prices. I was used to around $20 to 22 but $30 is out of hand.
Regards,
Bordello -
That's getting to be a lot of money for a bag of lump, that is if it is a 20# bag.
Time for you to find a Walmart that carries RO. Also check any local grocery stores that are Kroger owned. Out here Smith Food King is Kroger owned. If not in stock they will order in Kroger lump for you.

Scott,
Gilbert, take the 202 to Gilbert road. Out by Santan Village if you know where that is. Nice area but a bit of a ride just for pecan chunks, that's why I bought the lump but never looked at the price.
Cheers,
Bordello
