I order fresh spices a couple times each year and I've got my eye on some of the exotic smoked sea salts. One is from the Pacific Ocean and smoked with alder, & one is from the Bali Sea and smoked with coconut and kiffir lime leaves. Anyome have any experience with these? Seems they would be great on seafood.

thirdeye, befor spending exotic prices try smoking your own and see if you like it. smoked sea salt says bloody mary to me. if you smoke the food, idont think extra smoke in the salt would make much difference, however on sliced fresh vegetables i think it would be great.

    fishlessman,
I've tried smoking my own salt three times (one kosher & two sea), but the smoke flavor disipates after a week or so. You are right about the prices.....wow. But variety is the spice of life!

thirdeye, ive got a package of moist grey seasalt, maybe if i smoke it over a water pan and then seal it in a jar it would work. maybe put some lime juice in the pan. ive really been thinking about those bloody marys
