    Sundown,
I can totally relate to your excitement.
Just got my cast iron grate last Thursday. I contacted my local distributor and they had one come in on their regular Green Egg order so I did'nt have to pay any shipping cost. I won't cook my steaks and hamburgers on anything else. When you see those beautiful sear marks you will know what I mean. I also got a few good tips from the forum on seasoning the grate.

    jake42,
Is it much of a problem to maintain when you are not using it for a few weeks? Does it rust? That is my only reservation in buying one. Thanks.

Crab Leg, mine has not rusted thru this summer and there were a few weeks that i didnt use it. i did not season it and feel that the seasoning would just burn off at high temps. it is very humid here as the egg sits over the lake. the only problem ive experienced is that a small section cracked and fell off with one of the first cooks. at first i was upset, however the area is just large enough to slide wood chips thru. it is very heavy to pick up if you want to add chunks.

    Crab Leg,
I have had several other grills that had cast iron grates in them. It took years for one of them to rust simply because I neglected it and I think that is because moisture was getting into the grill as well.
Obviously I am taking better care of the Egg than I was my other grills. I figure if you just spray it with Pam before and after each use there should be no problem. Pam has a spray made spcefically for grills too. Somehow I just can't imagine going for weeks at at time without a good steak or hamburger though. :-)
