ok very weird thing happened to my laptop last night.. We got home from our camping trip and I turned it on and got into AOL and Firefox all ok and everything things was there and fine. Skype and some other things I took a quick peek at before going to bed.
turned it on this morning and I noticed that my desktop did not have Blairs great moon shot on it and had a 3-d HP desk top design and my tool bars looked funny. logged into aol and checked a few things all good. went to log into firefox and nothing... everything is gone  .... all my saved bookmarks .... and my saved pass words :S took me 10 minutes to get onto the egg forum. so then I went back to my desk top and my whole laptop except for AOL is back to the original... all my pics are GONE all my doc are gone.... wiped out
I checked history, trash, old files gone. it is like it was when I brought it home... about to cry as I did have all my grandsons pics... I was there when he was born... most are up on photobucket but I did not load all of them just because....
at least I was to tired to load our camping pics last night :(
everything was fine last night. everything was there.... anything I have added since I got it though is gone....all but aol... and I understand why that is there it is not held on my pc. but firefox should be too??

that sounds terrible... why don't you try to "restore to last reboot" ...could you have a virus?

It sounds like your profile got corrupted. That's the file that tells windows who you are when you logon. It "remembers" your individual settings and things like that. I'd wager all of your information is still on your hard drive... somewhere. I've had that happen and "sometimes" a reboot will fix it.

Look around on your hard drive for your data to at least determine if your real data is lost. Places like "Documents and Settings" and c:\data depending on how your machine was set up.

Sounds like (as kricks pointed out) a profile issue.

Is it possible you logged in to the wrong account somehow? What operating system are you using?

(At first I was hoping this thread was about 'political correctness' and not 'personal computer'. I was all set to really offer some good advice on the former.)

There is a few things to check, I would first go and do a restore back to the last restore point. Everything is not lost and as long as the hard drive is working everything can be recovered. You can email me and we can run through everything till we get it sorted out.

IT IS HERE!!! I did not reboot this morning at home as I had turned it on this morning when I got up. thinking that would not be any different than a reboot. shut it down to come to work and was going to drop it off on my way home at my pc guy. just booted up here at work and there was Blair's Moon on my desk top!!! good thing no one was here as I was screeching!! first thing I did was check my grandsons birth pics :) and then my books for work LOL the pics from camping that I loaded this morning are not there but I put them right on to photo bucket as soon as I loaded then so no worries. happy girl here right now.

Eggcellent news! Now that your PC has scared the bejeebers out of you... it might be a good time to do a little preventative work. Knowing that there are only two kinds of hard drives... those that have failed and those that are going to fail... take a little time to back up or make a copy of the files that are important to you.

Just get a USB drive... they come in large sizes these days... and copy the files you want to it. You can get more sophisticated back up options as well.
