Kurobuta spares, worth the $$?

In my humble opinion no. I think Kurobuta chops would be amazing and the ribs were delicious, but not that much better than regular spares. Not worth the extra money.

I was wandering our local specialty store the other day and saw these on sale for $5.99 a pound. There was a small rack in the case, so I thought why not. The butcher pulled the membrane off for me, that was a good sign.

Didn't want to mess with them much since the meat was supposed to be very good, so I just put a light coat of Dizzy Dust and no mustard. Smoked them at 275 dome for 1 1/2 hours then foiled for an hour. Out of the foil and sauced for about 45 minutes.

They were extremely tastey and got a smoke ring in a short time, but it was a very small rack. Just perfect for the 2 of us though the ribs were not meaty at all but had a great flavor.

As an aside, thanks to Eenie Meanie & Gdenby who weighed in the other day. I bought these ribs as I was anxiously waiting the fiancee's Dr. appt where he was supposed to be having a melanoma removed. But the Dr. found it was too big, so into the hospital he went. After nerve racking tests and surgery, they think they got it all, which is great news. This is his 3rd bout with cancer, and it has not spread. We are so blessed. Interesting they closed the incisions with human bondo (quote from the nurse), no stitches.

Thanks for looking/reading!

Teresa, looks as if you egged the Kurobuta ribs to perfection! :) Wow, what a smoke ring on top of it all. I appreciate your posting your results. The pics were very nice.

Glad to see they obtained clear margins for your fiance. I hope the melanoma did not penetrate deep and that the margins were wide.

Thanks Rebecca. Judging by the size of his incisions, they cleared the margins allright! They did a lymphectomy too and they were clear.
