High temp pizza cook fried the gasket

I've only had my egg since spring but I think a high temp pizza cook fried my gasket. I started seeing smoke coming out between the lid and the bottom. I also noticed the upper band seemed to be loose and the lid did not seat properly.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Should I replace the gasket with another BGE replacement or something else?

I know many people cook without a gasket but does this mean I will burn all my lump on every cook since I can't snuff it out? If so, that would be expensive with the XL egg.
