HELP: Wire Mesh Gasket?
Rocky2010
Posts: 2
Does anyone know where I can get a "wire mesh" gasket for a large BGE? I saw a link about two years ago and cannot find where. Thanks for your help!

here are a couple of ideas.

BGE, Gasket, Permatex
Procedure:
1 I finished re-doing my ceramic grill's gasket with Permatex Ultra Copper® gasket maker good to 650°F.
2 It took about 2 days to do (including the 24hr curing)
3 I should have done this years ago - it's a great seal and will last many years....
4 It's not copper, just the name of the ht silicone gasket maker. The permatex remains rubbery and non-sticky and serves as a gasket (feels like rubber). there is no other gasket needed on the dome rim or bottom rim.
5 I only did the base, while leaving the dome without any gasket. Thickness 3/8" & costs only $25 for 4 tubes.
6 Wax paper was used when closing the lid, to allow curing
7 PERMATEX® ULTRA COPPER® Hi-Temp RTV Silicone Gasket Maker
8 For 4-cylinder, turbocharged or high-performance engines. The most advanced, high temperature RTV silicone gasket available. Sensor-safe, low odor, non-corrosive. Superior adhesion. Three times more oil resistant than conventional silicones; eight times more flexible than cut gaskets. Temperature range -75°F to 700°F intermittent; resists auto and shop fluids and vibration.
9 Suggested Applications:
10 Exhaust manifolds/headers, valve covers, oil pans, timing covers, water pumps, thermostat housings.

15 Still cheaper than E-Bay

Having just done the Pematex in 2 steps, I offer two suggestions:
1. Throw away the plastic nosecone.
2. Use oiled Saran, not waxed paper. Even oiled, waxed paper stuck to the Permatex, Saran did not.
My new gasket is about 1/8 inch, but could grow. The felt is still on the dome. Excellent seal, per dollar bill test. -
I'm not sure what you mean by a wire mesh gasket. The only wire mesh I know of on the egg is the spark arrestor (or whatever it's called) on the lower vent. I would think your dealer would have or could order one. If not, you could always call BGE.
Or are you asking about the gasket gasket?I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I mean the actual gasket that seals the egg. I keep on burning my felt ones down during the sear. I am cooking a couple of pork shoulders next weekend and I want to reseal with a more durable gasket. Does anyone know where they sell them?
Thank you! -
I think you mean the Rutland Fiberglass gasket. It looks like wire in the pictures but it isn't.
