Make sure you use one with a metal shield, like the black one. I learned the hard way

I'll bet that batch of cheese tasted good

Hehe, actually I couldn't tell the difference. As you can see on the can lid, very little of the blue plastic was melted and stuck on it. The smoke probably overpowered the plastic smell :(canuckland

I built the paint can cold smoker and it works great. I use pellet grill pellets as the fuel, lite them up with a torch and it runs for several hours.
I've fashioned an adapter to attach the vent hose to the intake on the XL egg and it smokes cheese and eggs just great -
Could you post a few more photos? I'm just getting into cold smoking and it seems to be going really well. I have some sockeye in my egg right now and I just took the temp and it's 101F - pretty close to bang on for salmon cold smoking. Probably a bit hot for cheese though,
I'm using a small peanut can inside my BGE but I dig your set-up. -
I unplug mine once the wood chips get going. They will burn by themselves with maybe a couple of jump starts needed during the cook.

That looks great. I've been toying with my own design in my head and was thinking about using a tea-light as a heat source. I do admit that a soldering iron would be a fair bit cleaner.
I don't know how I missed that on your site. I thought I had gone through it quite thoroughly. Thank you. -
Man that's scary!
Just as well you noticed it. Not sure why people persist with this dangerous method.
