For those who have cooked in winter and also cold rainy weather, doesn!t the lump in the cooker get damp and hard to light or use what is leftover?

    Lumplighter,
As long as you don't allow water to enter the cooker, the lump will stay dry and won't be hard to light. Cold weather is no problem either. You can cook in cold weather without having to insulate your egg or provide a windscreen, etc. [p]TNW

Lumplighter, as TNW said it is no problem - in case you live in a rainy climate you might want to spend 7 bucks for a metal roof stack cap which will prevent a dumping rain from even bothering you. I've egged in real downpours with no problems.

<p />Lumplighter:[p]This be what RRP it talkn' about. As you can see by the water pooled on the patio the cap really does the trick. Just get one big enough to fit over your daisywheel.[p]As for cold weather, I NEVER, EVER cook wearing my nylon shelled down coat. If you open the dome and have a flashback you'll all too easily set yourself on fire![p]Kelly

Lumplighter,[p]Here's what I do just for laughs. I want to upgrade to a John Deere umbrella (to match my apron) with the adjustable tilt feature.[p]4046170e.jpg[p]Seriously, no problem in the rain or snow

    Kelly Keefe,
thanks for posting a visual reference for him - there are different styles though and my cap is circular forming a short cone shape kinda reminding you of a Chinese coolie's hat.
BTW I guess we better jump in here with a warning though...NEVER touch that metal cap with your bare hands - it gets extremely hot and great pain and mental anguish are bound to follow!
