Looking forward to smoking a turkey.
Any advice on using the vertical roaster? Should I just put it on the roaster and set it in a drip pan directly on the grate?
Or would it be best to use the platesetter in the indirect method with v-rack and drip pan?

  • jake42,
I use the plate setter. Set the dome at 350 using a turkey stand on the grill with drip pan on the plate setter.I believe the last one I did was less then 3 hours. Internal temp about 180 and eat until you blow up. I used a small amount of Jack Daniel chips. [p]Jerry

    jake42,
I'm planning on smoking my first turkey this year (not using a vertical roaster) and have no idea where to begin. Anyone with advice?

    Jwirlwind,
Thanks, I was'nt sure if the lid would close using the stand and the platesetter.

FatDog, I have cooked only 2 turkeys but they turned out great. I use a platesetter with drip pan. I place the bird in a V-rack like you would a roast. I rub the bird with olive oil and a poultry rub. I stick a couple of fairly small chunks of hickory in the lump. Cook at 350* for about 3 hrs. Good luck, hope this helps some, Jim.
