To pull or not to pull before going in the ice chest

I am rather new to egging and love it. However, I have ruined a couple butts while learning. [p]I have 14# of butt on my Lg BGE right now, mostly following Elder Ward's post. The butt will likely be done several hours before dinner time so I plan to put the butt in an ice chest to rest before the fest. [p]Assuming all goes well through the night and I successfully reach final temp, do I pull the meat prior to putting in an ice chest or wait until serving?[p]NutmEGGer

NutmEGGer,[p]Don't pull...[p]Wrap in some HD Aluminum foil, then a couple of old towels. Then I fill the rest of the cooler with crumpled newspaper. I usally put a couple of crumpled pieces in the bottom also. If the cooler is cold bring it up to at least room temp. [p]BTW... I like your nickname.[p]Steve-B

    NutmEGGer,
Steve is right. Don't pull. When you take the butts out of the cooler, they will still be too hot to handle bare handed and will pull just fine.[p]TNW

NutmEGGer, I agree with both of the above, yet since my cooler of choice is an old Coleman Personal 16 which seals down pretty well, so instead of newspaper I have several old towels which wifey gave me and I wrap my foil wrapped butts quite tightly and pack the inside so there is no dead air space. In doing so I also have learned that in that controlled enviroment that the butts continue to cook internally even without more heat so I pull mine at 197° internal temp if I know it will be resting for a few hours. Once I went 5 hours in the cooler and when I unwrapped my butts they still were at hand burning temps.

when I said "I pull mine at 197°" I meant I pull them off the BGE and leave the butt in tact...I don't "pull" them then.
