I've heard a lot about using pecan, apple, and cherry woods for smoking ribs. What's your favorite?

apple with cherry a close 2'nd, sometimes a mixture of both

Pecan is my favorite, but really any of the regularly used woods are okay by me, aside from mesquite. I recently obtained a load of cherry from "Philsgrill".

It may be hard to find, but I really like using sassafras chunks on my ribs.

That's a new one on me Steve. But I'd like to try it. I'm not sure I've ever even seen it.

I think i dated her one time while I was in college. Not very sweet smoke. But on a serious  note, has anyone ever smoked with lime tree wood?

I'm partial to Pecan.

I happened to be out of pecan and apple the last time I did ribs but had some pear chunks I got from somewhere...have to say the smoke was mild and gave the ribs a very nice subtle taste..may be my new fav :woohoo:

No mesquite fans?

gee.... i thought i was the only whacko who uses sassafras...( one site i saw had it listed as poisonous! we've been eating kielbasi smoked with that wood for 100 hundred years... i blend the sassafras with some apple and cherry.... my fave!...... sassafras.... grows like crazy around here(NEPA)... if some folks would like to exchange woods... let me know....i like pecan and peach....i'll send you as much as want.... btw.... sassafras root is touted to be extremely medicinal too...( that where the flavor for "root beer" comes from.... thanks! ray

when i lived in florida... grapefruit wood was the popular wood for smoking fish....i guess.... you use what what have locally.... funny how people seem to think that the farther away something comes from.... the better it is?
