I had done a lot of research online and couldn't tell the difference so I was going to go with the cheaper of the two, which I thought was the primo. A quick trip to my local egg and primo dealer and I realized that this was a long term investment and price was no longerthe sole consideration.
For me, it all came down to the fact that the egg dealer ran a business where I could see myself stopping by for guidance and Lon term support. My primo dealer just wanted to make a quick buck. I'm sure he is not representative of their entire dealer base, but considering that the next closest dealer was an hour away, I had no desire to be married to their product for the considerable future.
If my egg dealer retires or has to shut his doors, there are two or three others within a half hour.
Good luck with your purchase and let us know if you have any product specific questions. -
This is not an objective comparison, just a reinforcement for the value of the Big Green Egg. I have a Medium purchased in 1999. Right beside it, I have a Large purchased in 2007. You have to be a BGE historian to be able to tell which one is old and which is new (there are some subtle hints in the hardware). When I bought my Large, I seriously considered selling my Medium. At the first Springfield Eggfest, I had 3 offers that were equal to what I had paid for the Egg new 8 years earlier (and had them within a half hour of the opening of the fest). Thank goodness I came to my senses and kept them both. I use both about equally. Not sure which I would give up if forced. The Medium has been a faithful companion for many years, but its just a little small for doing things like racks of spare ribs or turkey...not that I haven't done them on it, it is just much easier on the Large.

Can you think of any other consumer good that looks as good as new after 11+ years and is worth its original purchase price? I can't.
