Newbie Smoking Turkey
Hey, all,[p]First time posting.. had my Egg since July, just love it.[p]Question: If you have a vertical (cone-shaped) rack, how does one fit a turkey on it? Are you supposed to remove the higher of the two ceramic rings? I tried a five pound chicken, could barely clear the lid with the rack on the grill in its usual position. (I also realized that turkey racks are for turkeys, not chickens. Trying to mash that little sucker's neck down over a turkey size cone was, ah.... interesting. Any advice on using the vertical rack most appreciated. [p]Roger in Canada

Roger,
Let me see if I've got this right. You've got a vertical turkey roaster and are trying to put a chicken on it?[p]I'm pretty sure the problem comes from the chicken sitting too high on the holder. With the grill in the normal cooking position, you shouldn't have a problem with doing a turkey on the turkey roaster. If you're using a plate setter or firebricks to go indirect, that would raise the height and cause problems.[p]Hope that helps.

Roger,
you can remove the higher of the rings, just make sure you put some thermal mass in between the bird and the lump...[p]take out the grill and fire ring, then drop the grill back down on top of the firebox (the lower ring).[p]then set-up as you would, only now you are about 3 or 4 inches lower
