Anyone have any eggsperience with cold smoking on the egg, or using the egg as the firebox/smoke generator and then ducting the smoke into something else?[p]I have a generations old Bacon cure recipe and I want to be able to cold smoke them after the cure.[p]Any help or designs or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Bobby-Q,[p]I have a lot of experience with cold smoking but would need to know just what you expect from this process. If you think that you can use the Egg to generate smoke for something like bacon which will usually take about two weeks for cold smoking, you are in deep dodo. It takes a smokehouse for this process and the Egg will not work. However, the Egg will do a fine job with cold smoking at many different temps with the right setup and method for shorter smokes at say around 85 to about 120 degrees in the winter. I have included my e-mail address and if you have questions, fire then this way and I will try to answer. [p]Dave

<p />Bobby-Q,[p]I have done it several ways. The photo way you need two eggs of course. I have also done a similar setup with a foil bag on the hose. Another way is to use only a few pieces of lump and a pan of ice under what your smoking. Any of these ways will allow you to have a low temp smoke. [p]Let us know how it turns out.[p]Chuck

    Howdy Dave.
Just wanted to say how nice it is to have you posting on this forum once again. Not sure if I speak for everyone, but personally, i am glad to see you back. Amazing how this forum has changed. It is growing at breakneck speed, and nice to see people interacting positively across the board. Seems like, with the larger number of folks participating, the more we all learn about dealing each other and the better folks get along. Seems like some of the ol' strong egos are also a bit more in check these days. Dontchya think?[p]Holdin a cold one high to you right now.

    Nature Boy,
when exactly is the eggfest in MD? We are trying to get a littlet eggfest of our own in PA. We do a free grill show each May that is really something to see and we are probably going to push it to more egg than gas soon. With the mini only costing me like $150 I might take advanatge of that.

Chuck, and if you take that hose and run it through a cooler filled with ice water, it'll give you an even cooler smoke.

    Chuck,
Perhaps you need to use the word "need" more that "want". Research and document your case, and present it with a special night out on the town.[p]good luck, my friend. Let me know how I may help.

Nature Boy,[p]Hmmm...that special night out might just be the trick. I like the "needs" part as well. Not sure I'll convince her I "need" one but I got a couple of months to try.[p]Chuck
