Apple wood score!

I posted (not too long ago) about the difficulty I was having finding apple wood chunks / logs in my area.

In March, one of my neighbours was talking about cutting down some apple trees. I told them that I'd be happy to take the wood off their hands. A month or so went by and I heard them cutting down some trees.

Around the same time, their house went up for sale, followed by a sold sign not too long after that.

Yesterday my neighbour was loading some boxes into his truck and called me over. He told me that if I still wanted the wood I was welcome to take it.

Wow, it's about 1/3rd of a cord of wood - it's now nicely stacked in my back yard close to my eggs.

Gotta love it!

That is great, apple is my favorite wood for smoking. I use it for most everything.
You probably already know, but you can use it green, no need to season it! :)

That's great Michael. Apple is for sure the go to wood around here.

Warning: cutting and chopping and storing wet or green wood, in an enclosed dark environment will result in MOLD. So watch that ;)

    Enjoy it

Mold - Good to know - right now it's stacked outside and I intend to use as much as possible this summer!

  • Nice. I've gotten an apple tree, a cherry tree, and an oak tree this year from the free section of Craigslist. Haven't gotten around to making some chunks out of the cherry yet, but the others have been great.

    Enjoy!

I've got some cherry, apple, and some hickory (under similar circumstances. I'm not sure what else to get but I'm open to suggestions - especially if it's free.
