Plate Setter Looks Horrible

My plate setter is about a year old now and has never been cleaned. It looks like something from the La Brea tar pits. Any suggestions how I might clean it up a little bit? I look at Tim M's website and his looks pristine clean. Mine's an embarrassment. ;-)

BBQBluesStringer,[p]Unless mold has formed on the ceramic, there really is no need to clean it. If you feel the need to get a pristine looking platesetter, place it in the Egg, crank up the heat, and let it go through a "self-cleaning" cycle. Of course you may want to consider throwing a pizza on at the beginning of the cycle...[p]Puj[p]
  • BBQBluesStringer,
like puj said, let the temps get going, put the plate setter in, and run them up to 750+. .. . it'l get real white real fast. .. .but don't do like i did, and forget about it for 45 minutes. . .not only was the entire inside of my egg white hot, but my gaskets had turned into black goo (did you sal la brea tar pits). ..so not only did in clean my plate setter and egg really good, i now had an excuse to replace the gaskets (although i have to admit, it was really easy to clean off the old gasket material when it was basically liquid). .. .

BBQBluesStringer,[p]It's a little late for you now but I put foil on mine before I cook.

  • BBQBluesStringer, a trip through the oven cleaner cycle will make it new again...I have done it several times.
